Not time to take the foot off

the gas pedal. No. It isn’t time yet. Watch Museveni’s words. Read the transcript. It is certainly not yet time. The bill is still in Uganda’s parliament. And, most importantly, there has not been any fundamental change in the attitude of my countrymates. They are still as out for my blood as a gay Ugandan, homo, as they were before. And the lies are still being told about us.

No. It is not time to forget this bill. It is not ‘no more’.

Am I flogging a dead horse? No. I am not. The bill was a symptom. The disease is still raging. And, I am a Ugandan living, working in Uganda.

And, it is time my countrymates understood what exactly they have been trying to do. Because, I am a human being. Being gay does not excuse their hate, their lack of thinking, their embrace of stupidity.

I am gay. I am also Ugandan.

Museveni’s words make it pretty clear that it was not interests of my humanity, of my human rights which made him give a caution to his party. It was the foreign policy interests. It was the pressure from the US and other nations. That was the consideration, not the fact that the Ugandans wanted to kill and imprison other Ugandans because they are gay.

The Honourable Bahati seems to be entrenched in his fear of me as a gay person. I plan to offer him a chance to meet me and we discuss some of the things that he seems to hold in fear of me. Hon. Bahati, and Hon. Obua-Ogwal. There is no need to fear me, just because I am gay. When you are holding a spear to my neck, of course yes. Then.

But, I don’t believe in you fighting me because you fear me so much. Let us meet. Let us talk. As human beings. As Ugandans.

You don’t need to believe everything that you are told by the people who hate me, even those from America, the Scott Livelys of this world. They have made you make a fool of Uganda. You owe our country an understanding of gay people who are Ugandans. We are here.

Stop believing the words of the Paul Kagaba’s and George Oundo. They are liars and following their own agendas. As the person you have tried to kill, simply because you don’t understand me, I am requesting for a chance to iron out your misconceptions.

Especially the ‘recruiting’. Yes, especially the ‘recruiting’ which you seem so determined to hang round my neck.

Indeed, there is a lot of education to be done. Even of some Human Rights advocates. Remember at the beginning of this, when the bill was just introduced in parliament, when the Civil Rights Coalition to fight the bill was formed? I saw one silver lining. That the Human Rights Activists in Uganda had finally embraced gay Ugandans as human beings whose rights they could fight for. But, they are woefully ignorant of us. This, from one of the leaders of the biggest group.
Appearing on Vision Voice's News maker program this morning, the Executive Director,of the foundation for Human Rights Initiative, Livingston Sewanyana said the Bill infringes on human rights.
Sewanyana calls for more sensitization of the masses about the dangers of the vice before it can be criminalized.

Sensitization indeed. Homosexuality is infectious. Is like a virus for which one needs immunization. I heard that comment on NTV at Nine yesterday, and I was appalled. That was a university student talking about us. Thanks be to the gods another was shown immediately thereafter who came out and said ‘I do have friends who are gay. If it was a virus, why am I not gay?’

Fear, ignorance, false knowledge. False information. That is what is driving the gay panic in Uganda. And, it is a portent brew. Fanned by Charismatic leaders like Ssempa.

Which reminds me, the Christians in Uganda need a good lesson in the Compassion of Christ. I am not going to go there...! But, it is something that is desperately needed. They have been the leaders. From established churches to the ‘Pentecostal’ Churches. They are all bitterly unhappy that they have not got the chance for us to be killed off. Even the Catholic Church whose theology and teaching should have taught them better, they were ambivalent and un-Christian. I listened to Ssempa in amazement as the guy said that the media was ‘lying’ that they wanted to kill homosexuals. Indeed!

Ssempa needs to be sat down and read the bill. In the English that it is written. Or, maybe he needs an American accent like the one he affects sometimes?
The bill has been termed un-Christian. The Archbishop of Canterbury wonders how on earth an Anglican can support it. The Christians in Uganda support it. Because of the ‘external and internal threats’ to the ‘traditional family’. Yes, dear American friends, we need to reassess the export of radical Christianity to Africa. It is Christianity that Christ himself would not understand.

Yes. Our work is cut out for us.

Education. Sensitization. And, making fellow Ugandans know that, I being a gay Ugandan is no threat to them. Is no threat to their children.

Conversation with a Ugandan Legislator 2

Well, you saw it. The first part of the conversation with Honourable Benson Obua Ogwal.

There is no question I was being naughty. I reached out to him, and he kindly answered. Then I put his answers on the blog.
No, I will not defend myself on that. My life on line, I am sorry if what I am ready to do to survive irks you.

And, it is still on line. Life and liberty, of me and mine.

Anyway, the honourable MP does pass through the blog posts, to see what us perverts are up to. And, he was not happy that his very letter, and identifications were published. He wrote me another, to finally say goodbye, with a good rant. And an update that he gave me permission to post.

See, Hon. Obua-Ogwal, the problem is that we cannot speak in the country. We homosexuals. You do a lot of abuse of us in private in Uganda. Frank abuse, like that in your first letters. Pastor Ssempa spits. Spits on live TV, speaking about us.

Maybe it is his right.

For me, I am a Ugandan. I will not rescind my citizenship because some people who dont know me want me to. Because they are Christians. Or, for any other reason.

Here is Hon. Obua-Ogwal's latest communication.

Anonymous Gay Man-woman,

I knew at some point you would do exactly what you have done; splash our "private discussions" for the whole "world" to see and sympathise with your wayward ways. I follow your campaigns on your blogs and the misinformation that you peddle just to gain sympathy.

I had said the discussion was over, but I just had to come back this once to say that we have done our homework very well and the Bill will be passed. Keep your head low in your practice, do not mess with minors/juveniles and disabled, and you will be very safe. Better still, reform and drop the bad habit.

I was about to bring on board a medical expert who is ready to take you on with scientific data since you do not trust any of us lay people to think this through, but now I am having second thoughts. He has done extensive research in this area. You are not born that way; you learnt the bad habit and so you can unlearn it!

You are permitted to call me, Bahati, Buturo anything you want, but we are going to keep our cool and go on working to keep the integrity of our beloved Pearl of Africa.

By the way, if you did not know, there is a Moroto County in Lira district, Lango sub-region as opposed to Moroto district in Karamoja. So if you a Karamojong who is a homo, that is up to you; but I am sure we do not have any Homo in Moroto county. It would be taboo.

Go ahead and put this one on your blog too; you have my permission.

Tell the Orthodox Jews who are praying for you that Bwana Matovu made his submission to the Parliamentary Committee charged with scrutinising the Bill long before the Entebbe meeting and he made the views of the Orthodox Church very clear, and I am sure you know what it is by now.

I have learnt that this Bill has opened for guys (gays) a globetrotting opportunity and so many are one the way to come and try to convince our leaders otherwise. They are welcome to enjoy the beautiful climate here. We will give them audience where necessary to tell them that here, we are a sovereign state and we will not take orders from elsewhere, but do what our population want us to do.
Bye.

Benson.

Well, a fuse overloaded somewhere in my brain and I sent a missive back. Not very proud of it, but, well.....!

Here it is.

Hi Benson,
Know why I did it? Because of your intemperate language.
You know, you abuse us in private, and, expect us to be very, very temperate in language towards you.
Isnt that funny?

Of course I did it so that I get your attention. And, to show the world how the good Christians of Uganda treat us evil homosexuals in private, and in Uganda, when the rest of the world does not see. Were you ashamed of it?
Do you think Pastor Ssempa is ashamed of spitting on tv when he mentions homosexuals?
Told you, it is my life. My life that is in balance.
And, I am going to post this also. Thanks for the unnecessary permission. So, keep your attention there. And, of course I am going to send copy this to the others. I get tired of you expecting me to play fair, when you abuse me, tell lies about me, and do all other things. I am gay. Call me a pervert, call me what you do, that is your privilege. Want to play rough with me, well, I can give almost as well as I get.
By the way, thanks for falling into that trap... Your name, the fact that you represent UPC, those were more than enough to make me know that it was not Karamoja that you represent.
So, are you tribalistic also? Do you believe that the Langi are superiour to the Karimojong? So, no Langi can be a homosexual?
Benson, I really wish you had an expert in the scientific aspects of sexuality. Because, you would not even say such ridiculous things.
And, for your information, WWWWWWW is really an expert. If you have taken the chance to ask his opinion as a born again Christian, I am sure he will also be able to satisfy your opinion as a scientist.
I am not happy to do any fights in public, but, Benson, you do deserve it. More than you think.
Goodbye.

GayUganda the Pervert

Well, there we are. The Orthodox Jews that he wrote about, I think he meant Orthodox Christians. A small slip of the mind,... err tongue, or fingers. From a comment here.

Nice to note that the Parliament is sticking to its guns. For the good of the Pearl of Africa, of course, isnt it?

Conversation with a Ugandan Legislator

This bill means the difference between life and death for me.

No frills. No political correctness. No fake ideals, or anything like that. And, I must admit to myself that, the gloves have to be off. I have to say it like it is, and show the world what we are up against.
If I seem too ruthless, forgive me. It is my life in balance. If you think you cant sink as low as I, well, lucky you.

I have been concerned that the knowledge that is out in the world, that I am privy to is not getting to the major principles of the bill. So, as the news came in, I decided to send to a few legislators, Ugandan MPs, the reaction of the rest of the world.

So, I sent the Rick Warren letter. The Rachel Maddow links, [I know, in Uganda, almost impossible to download video clips]. I sent the update on the Archbishop of Canterbury, and the Vatican, etc.

Have had quite a conversation. Private.

Well, I have decided to make part of it public. On this blog. The conversation between me and the Rt Honourable Benson Obua Ogwal. (UPC) Member of Parliament for Moroto.

Started a while ago.

I sent him this article. 'Christians, Put down the Stones'

Here was the esteemed legislators response.

Dear Anonymous Gay,
And you think this will deter us?
There are a very few aspects of the Bill that we can concede on like the Death Penalty and Extra-territorail Jurisdiction, but Gays won't have a field day in this country, try as the would. It is not about any of those Anti-Gya activists being attacked in the media. It is about Uganda. If only Gays could do it behind closed doors and not try to lure the innocent poor youth, it
would be a different matter. But they are becoming bolder and bolder.
Benson.
My brief reply

Put down the Stones, Mr. MP
You have accused us of too many false deeds.
Put down the Stones

Then, after some time, I sent the statement of the Vatican Permanent representative to the United Nations that I blogged about here. Just the statement.

Here was Hon. Benson's reply.

Hey Gay Pervert,
How about this one coming from all religious leaders across board right here
at home?:
www.monitor.co.ug/artman/publish/news/Church_leaders_back_govt_on_anti-
gay_Bill_95758.shtml
We love gays, but hate homosexuality which has no place here.
Forget about the Bill being withdrawn, for it will be passed in due time.
Benson.

Here is my reply

Hi Honourable MP,
Yes, I have noted the perjoratory term you have used.
Personally, I think it shows some very fine defects in your intellect. But, I cannot say so. I am the pervert, arent I?
You, sir, and all the ones you have copied this letter, are shaming my beautiful country. Yes, I am gay. and Ugandan. And, you are shaming my country, before the whole world.
Rick Warren has denied Ssempa, and come out against the Bill. So will the rest of the world. The Catholic Church is going to come out against the bill. And, you will continue calling me a pervert, dear honourable MP.
Dont think it takes much intelligence to work out who will be the dishonourable person and who will not.
Thanks for your nice comments, dear esteemed honourable
gug
Then followed a long conversation while the Rt Honourable Gentleman was kind of silent. Then, he was apparently irked by my reference to myself as the gay pervert. Kind of irks when one embraces the spear instead of shying away from it, doesnt it?

Here was his next e-mail to me.

It is not me who calls gays perverts. It is the Bible, and I believe in theBible. Gays and lesbians are perverts. And I cannot call you "Gay Uganda" because Uganda is not gay. What is your real name?
The religious groups in Uganda who met at Entebbe under the eigis of Inter Religious Council of Uganda and endorsed the Bill were represented at the top most levels in person: Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Metropolitan of the Orthodox Church, The Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kampala who is head of the Catholics in Uganda, The Mufti who head moslems of Uganda, The head of the Seventh Day Adventists and the President of the Born Again Federation of Uganda.
Think about it.
Benson.

My reply

Hi Benson,
My name is gay Uganda the pervert.
I happen not to be a Christian. It is a foreign religion. I dont believe in it. Does that make me less a Ugandan? I will think about that.
Do you represent only Christians in your Constituency?
Ok, thanks, so you confirm that the Catholic Archbishop was amongst the 200 church leaders and the Moslem leaders. Was the Cardinal there?
Thanks, thanks, thanks.
I will think much about that. I assure you.
Tell me, Benson, do you really think there is nothing wrong with this bill of yours? The Bahati/Benson Bill. I am just curious. So many people from all over the world have condemned it that I am curious about your view. You as Benson. Do you think Uganda must be right and the world MUST be wrong?
gug
His reply

Why are panicky, Mr who? Why don't you wait and see what MPs are going to do with this Bill as representatives of their people? This protracted and winding arguments are not going to be very helpful because they are simply convuluted.
Has it ever occured to you that the whole world could be wrong and only Uganda right on this gay thing? Why must we see things through the lenses of the WORLD that might be totally lost? Does it not bother you that it is evil, wrong and dirty to use an organ meant for egesting something dirty? Give me a break!!

I represent all in Moroto, but will be disappointed to find that there is a gay there. My people are very happy with my stand on the Bill.
I do not know the difference between the Cardinal and the Archbishop, but I know His Emminence the Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala retired recently and was replaced by Bishop Kizito Lwanga. I am inclined to think the latter was there.
I know what you want to say, but spare yourself the trouble; The Vatican may have a position that is different as you are trying to say, but this is Uganda.
I think this debate is up. It is taking me nowhere!! There is nothing new coming here. It is beginning to irritate me that you keep flooding my inbox with your mails. Remove me from your mailing list.

My reply. Dont think I will hear from the Honourable in some time anyway.

Hi Benson,

So, there are no gay people in Karamoja? I dont really know how to reply to that. The best answer would be that I am from there. But, you will not believe a gay Ugandan pervert, will you?
Why panicky? The mps in my country have tabled a bill in which I and any other Ugandan who is like me is to be imprisoned or killed. Because we are different.
You know, I have too much evidence and knowledge that Uganda is in the wrong here. That is why I am asking you for your take on it. Tells me your state of mind. So, you do think that Uganda is right and the world is wrong. Interesting.
I see life through my own eyes. MY OWN EYES. I happen to be too independent not to question what people like Mr Langa tell me. I question, I listen, I look, I observe. I come to conclusions.
For example, I am not a Catholic. But, well, I know the difference between the Archbishop and the Cardinal.
Benson, Benson, I am a Ugandan. The law of the spear prevails. You have one to my throat. My life. That is the option you give me with a bill which gives me life in prison or death. For you it might be an academic thing. For me, well, it is not, Mr Member of Parliament.
Which reminds me that you are supposed to represent all Ugandans who are in your Moroto district. Not only those who are in UPC, or those who are saved, or Christian. That is our right as Ugandans. And, we are Ugandans.
So, the shame, Mr Member of Parliament, is squarely in your corner.
I remain
gay Uganda the Pervert.

Hmmmmmm! Hindsight, I am playing with fire.

The coals are up in the air, and I am juggling it. Probability that I will be burned? Very high, unfortunately. I am bearding the lion in his den.

But, even a mouse can fight when it is the mouse's life in balance.

Pray for this mouse...
