Dire News?. Updated

Dull day.

In a way. I mean, cloud cover grey. Little sun filtering through. It is cold, and, I have had to get some warm clothing on. That is unusual. My lover is here, braving the cold. Maybe I have a slight fever? Certainly, a hacking cough. And, he was telling me I was a mite warmer than usual in bed.... didnt stop him from winding himself round me like a vine does a forest tree. Did I complain?

No. I loved it. And, was reluctant getting out of bed.

Done some work already. Had a couple of things that I slept on, dreaming of perfecting them in the morning. And, first out of bed, reading a poem, (Winfred Owen, To ___), I dove into the computer. Productive couple of hours.

And, then I have to get online.

Have decided on a novel solution for the hunger to be online all the time. Is mine, is mine, is mine. Wont share it....!

But, was immediately tickled when I got onto facebook on the phone and heard of Mubajje's pronouncements on homosexuality in Uganda.

Now, a little background. Do I need to tell you about the high feelings that homosexuality engages in Ugandans? And, should I remind you about the Anti-Homosexuality Bill 2009, which is currently stalled in Parliament? Oh, I don't need to, I hope.

Now, fast forward to this year, yesterday.

The politicians are at the polls. Criss crossing the country, looking for votes. This is supposed to be a democracy, so, regular polls to confirm the president.

Mubajje is the leader of the Moslems in the country... the legal leader. Or the regular leader... they have factions.

He hates homosexuals. Once, he wanted us to be marooned on an island on Lake Victoria. In his opinion, once marooned there, we homosexuals would die out, since we don't 'reproduce'. And, blessed Uganda would be free of us. He mentioned this 3 times. Told the President, who apparently didnt comment. At least where the press had eyes and ears.

Well, yesterday was Eid Aduha. And, as a good politician, the President was at the celebrations. To court the Muslim vote. He is shown in this pic seated, attentive, listening to the Mufti of Uganda. 


Correction. The Pres was in Arua. He wasnt listening to the Mufti, who was in Kampala yesterday. My apologies

Mubajje had a captive audience, including the head of state. And, what did he say? The over aching problem of the country is nothing but homosexuality. So, we need the presidential candidates to state their position.

Mubajje asked all the presidential candidates to state their position on the “touchy” matter of homosexuality or else face the wrath of the pious religious faithful.

“We have not heard any candidate speaking on the matter of homosexuality yet it is against God’s teachings,” he said. “We are concerned about this matter as religious leaders and we are waiting for the presidential candidates’ position on the matter.” He said it was such “evils” coupled with other immoral behaviour that see nations crumble, adding that he is in agreement with other religious leaders opposed to homosexuality.

I was not there.

But, I am amused. Actually, flabbergasted.

Indeed, the American Culture wars are being fought in Uganda. Sincerely speaking, of all the problems in the country, is the problem of homosexuality so important to the national discourse on choosing a new leader? Is any of our presidential candidates pro-gay? Can they dare to be seen to be pro-gay? It is politically correct to be anti-gay in Uganda. What was Mubajje's intention here?

Indeed, there are some people for whom my sexuality is a deep and abiding passion. Why the hell it is, I don't know.

To Pastor Dr. Martin 'eat da poo poo' Ssempa is added Mufti Mubajje. Leader of all muslims in Uganda. [There is a rival Mufti. The Kibuli faction. But, I do know that they can also not be seen to contradict Mubajje on this front.]

What do I make of this?

I have always consistently observed that we gay Ugandans seem not to drive the conversation here. We react to provocation like this, and Ssempa, and Bahati. Why is it of such importance that these guys push an anti-gay agenda? I believe the answer to that question is important for the prosecution of this war. And, it is a bloody war.

Why?

No, again, I don't have answers to this question. What drove Mufti Mubajje, on the day when he assuredly had the Presidents attention, to push a relatively minor issue into the Presidential election debate and make it an issue?

I am very convinced that I am not that important. Of course, Mubajje may be trying to deflect from his failures, the allegations of corruption, the divisions amongst the moslems, the fact that there is a rival Mufti. But, the President was attending his mass. He was not at the rival Mufti's place, which I believe is actually an opposition stronghold. Why was he trying to define the Presidential campaigns with the issue of homosexuality?

I don't think it will catch on, but, I am curious. We do have some pretty persistent enemies.

With the Rolling Stone outings, carried further by the Onion and Red rug, I am now wondering whether we are actually facing an underhand but still consistent push to drag my sexuality into the national political debate.

Is it co-ordinated? I don't know. No intelligence from the enemy camp. Can only read what is in the papers. And, the fact that Bahati supports the Rolling stone 'Hang them' campaign. Really a serious wonderful Christian. Here are his assurances.

Mr. Bahati sounded a confident tone about the AHB. He expresses strong belief that there is time to get the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs committee to have public hearings and write a favorable report. He says he has been assured of this by the committee chair. He believes then that the second reading would take place and then as is often the case in the Ugandan parliament, the third reading would take place the same day.

But, as usual, I have to polish my weapons, and not let rust get onto the armour. Might be called on to fight the anti-Homosexuality bill. And, very soon at that.

I just hope it doesnt come to that. But, what power do I have to stand down this avalanche?

I have my will. And, the will of a few billion people. Even against the will of my country men, and those who casually incite violence.

Pessimistic assessment, this Wednesday morning. Hope you are feeling good and fine.

Is the Bahati bill dead?

Is the 'Kill the Gays' Bill dead?

Sometimes we are complacent.

According to the procedure of the parliament of Uganda, the Anti-Homosexuality Bill 2009 was introduced by the Hon. Bahati about a year ago. Parliament is supposed to have three readings. The Bill had the first reading in parliament. And, it was then referred to 'committee,' which means what, I am not able to say.

But, subsequently, there were two committee hearings. They happened in parliament. One was with the religious leaders, minus the Catholics, who insisted the bill was great (at the time,) but for the death penalty, which they subsequently opposed. They were being virtuous, the Christians. They wanted our poor souls saved on earth by life imprisonment, instead of of summary execution for being gay.

Forgive the bile. It has to come out.

Now, now, officially, the bill did not die. It is still alive. Maybe hibernating.

And, it can be brought back to life.

I was reminded of this by the fact that Bahati and Buturo still hold out hope for it.

Buturo said the anti-gay measure will be addressed and passed "in due course."

"Of course I hope it passes," he said.

And, of course there has been speculation that the 'Hang them' Campaign was an attempt to revive it. No, I would seriously not put dear Ssempa past that. And, the fact that that issue of the 'rolling stone' had so much to quote from my favourite pastor kind of makes me wonder....

It is not dead. This sword is still hanging over our heads, as gay Ugandans.

Now, if that is a lie, I would love Dr. Nsaba-Buturo to correct me. He is more likely to know the facts that I, who is not a legislator in the 8^th parliament of Uganda.

Now, the text of the bill, with all the clauses as it was tabled at the first reading is here. If anyone out there still says there are no clauses to kill gays, please....! And, it is not aimed at paedophiles. Gug, [that is me] and my partner would die by hanging, as serial offenders, if that particular bill becomes law today. Of course.

And, the provisions to make our pastors and doctors and parents report us to the 'relevant' authorities still stand. Oh yes, they are there. And, none of the 'denialists' should tell lies about what it is. If that bill ever comes out again, let us not be blind to its provisions. They are clear, and in black and white. Not even Buturo, Ssempa, nor Bahati should be able to squeeze out of the provisions that they stood by.

And, if they lie, by the gods, I will point it out, again, and again.

Updates- Worldcup and others.

I have been off the internet for a bit of time.

Like missing a fix, the first days are the worst. The itch gets worse and worse, till it plateaus, and then starts sinking. I must confess that particular itch had barely got to the plateau phase…! And, in the meantime, I have changed internet providers, only to discover that there are actually cheaper, better options out there.

But, I am back. What has been happening?

Still trying to get to grips with what has transpired in the world of cyber, even over the last few days. World cup? Yeah, yeah, yeah…

I am not really a fan. Must confess that. But, the buzz, that vuvuzela buzz is hard to ignore. That is a new word in today’s English. They are like a swarm of angry bees in the tv set till the end of the march. Now, if I manage to avoid them, then it is a must to know the statistics. Who has beaten who, which upset has not yet materialized… etc. And, of course there is the more interesting news. The soap operas, national and international as the case may be. So, England lost to Germany? It is a national disgres. But, have you heard what is happening in France? A special session of parliament. The Italians are also pissed off. All that makes for some very interesting talking points. And of course, some very interesting decisions like the Nigerian President deciding to suspend the national soccer team from competing internationally for 2 years!! I must confess my nose for gossip and statistics takes me places… where sweaty, sweating arm chair atheletes argue about the pros and cons of the particular players, and get so fevered that spit and tempers fly. Want to know a man’s passion? (Women too!) Talk about football, and slip in some snide observations about their football team.

Now, I am gay [grin]… stereotypically, unless it is to admire Ronaldo’s movie star looks and gazelle-like grace when he puts on a burst of speed for the goal, I am not so interested in the actual game. Of course, I know enough gay people who are interested in it, for it to be one of those silly stereotypes. 

Listening to my mates here, I must confess that I am not very well tuned politically. I do not have that will to have something done, and now, to lead, as Bahati will, the country and the world in political anti-gayism. BUT, that inertia on my part is tempered by the fact that politics has lots of effects on my personal life. Case in point, the Bahati Anti-Homosexuality Bill of 2009. That was a political move. Which backfired, in my view.... I have to remember that that bill is still in parliament.

What has brought about that kind of reflection?

Err, the Uganda Electral Commission has announced the timetable for national elections next year. 

I can make a few shrewd predictions.

The ruling NRM party will nominate (unopposed) its current chairman- the President of the country. Despite the fact that there has been a dive in his personal popularity, he will win the elections, and will be president, come the next swearing in. Whether or not there will be a run-off will depend very much on the electioneering, and the cheating which WILL happen. Ahem, ahem.

Of course the opposition will lose. That is a given. And, they will cry foul. As usual. And, there might be another court case challenging the election results... though this time the powers that be may decide that third time is too silly.

What does all this have to do with the anti-gay bill?

There is a malignant air of anti-incumbency, but the one thing that may work to deflect the anger of the populace might be whipping up anti-gay fervour. So, the bill has perforce to hang over our heads like the proverbial guillotine. We wait. We watch, we shall see.

Far as I know, the bill is not being discussed at this time. Yeah, seen the Vanity fair article...

Absurdities

Or, for laughs.

You would think that the proprietors of the 'God Hates Fags' Church would be great supporters of Pastor Martin Ssempa, wouldnt you? Well, apparently not.

Just read this article. Seems to suggest that these guys believe even Ssempa will go to hell. Period. Very interesting!!!!! Or it might be that it has become impossible to come out in support of the Bahati Bill. That would be good, but, why, why is it that some do support it? Guess we are all different.

Now, I would say that being gay has inspired my writing. And, it is a gay romance that inspired most of Shakespeare's sonnets [at least that is what I think. Some of the most beautiful love poetry in the world]. But, apparently, it was different with EM Forester. Not discovering that he was gay until 38 years of age, gay relationships kind of zapped his creativity? I am glad that there are people like Elton John, Oscar Wilde, Leornado da Vinci and Shakespeare to kind of weigh back on such an assertion.... People like Ssempa would realy love the former assertion. Here.

The sharp decline in Forster's output has always mystified historians, but now a dossier of his private papers has revealed how growing personal contentment stunted his literary drive.

 After suppressing his sexuality as a young man, Forster, who was known to his friends as Morgan, lost his virginity to a wounded soldier in 1917 while working for the Red Cross in Egypt.

That sexual awakening in his late 30s led to a series of romances with working class men including a tram conductor and two policemen.

After publishing A Passage to India, arguably his greatest work, in 1924, Forster spurned the novel and most creative endeavours for the rest of his life, publishing only occasional short stories, essays and plays.

Wendy Moffat, associate professor of English at Dickinson College, Pennsylvania, who uncovered Forster's secret "sex diary" while researching a new biography of the novelist, said that the energy of his early years was drained by physical fulfilment.

She also believes that Forster lost interest in the middle-class domestic dramas that had been his forte as he dabbled with London's homosexual subculture on his return to Britain.

I am gay. Translation, biased in my view of this. But, I dare think that the 'conclusion' is not something that common sense would support!

On a less humourous note, Bishop Ssenyonjo is making it it all the way to the White house. Good for him. Apparently, by the time I post this, he will have made it there.

Extradition of Gay Ugandans...

Remember the Anti-Homosexuality Bill of the Parliament of Uganda (2009)?

One of the really far reaching provisions in the bill was seeking to make sure that no citizen of the Republic of Uganda would ever be immune from that law.
First, Uganda would nullify any international treaties that were against this particular legislation. (Afterall, it was supposed to be showing the way to the rest of the world.)
Then, if any citizen of Uganda (or resident) dared to break the law, not in Uganda, but outside the country, then they would be extraditable, and prosecutable in Uganda.... And, I am not joking. That is the fact of the bill.

See why people consider this bill a legislative 'genocide'? Simply put, no citizen of the Republic would be immune from the law against homosexuality in Uganda, whether inside or outside the country. That was clause 16 of the bill. And of course the punishments were [still are] death and life imprisonment.

Some friendly countries offered us asylum... [Thanks. But you know, the battle was not only asylum. Its true that the migration of Jews from Europe before and during the Nazi era did help save a lot of lives. But not all could have gotten out.]

Anyway, on Sat, the Monitor published an article about the British offer of asylum for gay Ugandans.... and the fact that the law would have required our extradition. I am not sure of the exact context of that conversation, but here is the article.

UK to protect Ugandan gays asylum seekers

The newspaper on May 23, quoted the British Home Secretary, Ms Theresa May as saying her government would block moves by the Ugandan government to force the extradition of Ugandan gay asylum-seekers.
According to the news paper, the move by the British government was applauded by campaigners, who are opposed to a proposed anti –gay law in Uganda. The Anti-Homosexuality Bill was presented to Parliament by Ndorwa West MP David Bahati and it proposes severe punishments for gay sex. Mr Bahati, who says he wants to protect heterosexuals, has tried to find validation in claims that European gays are recruiting young boys in Ugandan schools.
Not an offence
However, according to the report by The Independent, the Home Office made it clear that the UK will only extradite people to their home countries if their “crime” was not an offence in Britain. Homosexuality is not an offence in UK.
A spokesman for British Refugee Action said: “This is a really welcome announcement and a very positive step. Obviously, we will want to sit down with ministers and seek clarification over how a ban on deportations will be administered, but it is excellent news that extraditions to Uganda have been categorically ruled out.”
Not interested
The move follows international protests over the sentencing last week of two gay men in Malawi to 14 years’ hard labour. Early this week, Ugandan gays living in the UK led by Mr Moses Mugisha staged a protest at the Malawi embassy and called for the release of the two Malawian gay men. A Home Office spokesman said: “The new Government is committed to stopping the deportation of asylum-seekers who have had to leave particular countries because their sexual orientation or gender identification puts them at proven risk of imprisonment, torture or execution. We are considering the best way of implementing this policy. In terms of extradition, the UK will only extradite someone if they are wanted for an offence that is also a crime in the UK.”
The Minister of Information and National Guidance Ms Kabakumba Masiko said the government was not interested in gay asylum seekers but maintained that gay activities were unconstitutional and illegal in Uganda adding there is a clear procedure which the government can follow if “we wanted any criminal from another country.”

Whenever I see an article in the news about anything gay and Uganda these days, especially in the newspapers, I feel kind of goose pimply. That particular battle is not yet over. And the elections are just next year. The politicking is gearing up, and, I do fear that we shall be the fall guys.

Yeah, there are clear guidelines when Uganda wants any criminal from another country. And, I just dont want me and mine to be that 'criminal', ha ha ha ha!

Greetings!

Hi, to all and sundry!

Absent, totally absent and not communicating. That is what has been happening with me.

My apologies to all friends and well wishers. Sometimes it kind of gets to one, and then one has to hunker down so as not to be consumed by one's own self.....

Best thing is, I am rested.

Masses of emails to go through. No. My world does not stop and wait for me just because I am doing so..... Means that I will have to limp on for some time before I catch up with all and sundry. Bear with me....

Have been feeling the blogging fires steering for sometime now.... but, what tipped the balance was hearing that the two guys in Malawi, the couple that celebrated their wedding, that they have been granted a presidential pardon.

BLANTYRE, Malawi – Malawi's president on Saturday pardoned and ordered the release of a gay couple sentenced to 14 years in prison, but warned that homosexuality remains illegal in the conservative southern African nation.

President Bingu wa Mutharika said he would release Tiwonge Chimbalanga and Steven Monjeza on "humanitarian grounds only." He made the announcement during a press conference with U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in Lilongwe, the capital.

Of course, I would prefer that they were not condemned in the first place. And, they have endured at least 3 months in prison....

But, they are free to go. Ask yourself, in a country as conservative as Malawi, where even the judge refused to bail them for reasons of 'protecting them from the community'..... Where are they free to go to?

But, they are free.

Inconsequentials.

Good morning.

Its chilly here. Chilly indeed. Has been raining a lot. Thought the wet season was over. But, seems global warming has a different season schedule for us. Well, that is life. Why should I fight against what I cannot change?

Except the Bahati, Anti-Homosexuality Bill, of course.

Have a visitor in the house, my in-law. Cousin to my lover, on fathers side. So, he is his brother, the way we take things here. My Muko.

He was told the facts of our life, before he came. I think the reality has been a little bit overwhelming… I mean, you may hear of homos. But, to live in their home when they are pretty unwilling to hide the fact that they love each other, that is something else.

Bite me. One of the un-intended consequences of the Bahati bill has been a defiance. So, they want to hunt and kill us? Better come out of the closets and show them we are. In truth.

But, my Muko is coming round nicely. Started off almost too shy… but, I was always introducing him as my Muko. Remember the almost comic expression of disbelief when one of my brothers came to visit, and, I point to my bro and say, this is my bro, and then to the Muko and say, this is my in-law. I think he expected me not to blurt it out. But, they both know. So what? Seems as if the skies are yet to descend on us.

Lets Review, and Debunk some lies

Good morning.

Just going through my mail. First, I had to send my 'Uganda pastor showing porn in Church' letter to the various media houses.
Bite me, but I am a Ugandan. I do feel the requisite sense of shame when Ssempa does such things. He certainly does not feel it.... Me, I do.

Maybe it is ironic that it is a gay Ugandan that is protesting. But, why not?!

Nsaba Buturo is silent.

The Minister of Morals only complains about the morals of homos, who should forget about human rights. The morals of his supporters... Not a squeak. Maybe his irritation that a singer calls himself the Ghetto President is what I should look out for now, since he has gone mum on the Bahati 'Anti-Homosexuality' Bill. Ssempa is actually doing what the bill plans to forbid. Let me see the particular sections

Section 7; Aiding and abetting homosexuality

Imagine you are a gay man, starved of porn, sitting in some of Ssempa's sanctioned screenings... But, let us not talk about that.

Section 13; Promotion of homosexuality.

(1). A person who-

(a)participates in production, procuring, marketing, broadcasting, disseminating, publishing pornographic materials for purposes of promoting homosexuality;

commits an offence an is liable on conviction to a fine of five thousand currency points or imprisonment of a minimum of seven years or both fine and imprisonment.

Certainly, Ssempa is to all intents and purposes promoting homosexuality. Once the bill becomes law, I hope to do exactly that.... I will get a pass, wont I?

Speaking of which, MP David Bahati, fierce protector of the Traditional family, sponsor of the Anti-Homosexuality Bill was there, live, at the Screening of Homosexual Porn in a Church. The Church in question is Pastor Kiganda's Church.

Me, I am a Ugandan. The highflying arguments do not impress me much. Maybe it is the language. But, I am touched by the cutting down to basics.
Last night I listened to Pastor Solomon Male justify the killing, yes, I said it, the KILLING of gay Ugandans, because they have refused to change. Why not? The bible says so. And, the audience claps...! That was on Agenda Uganda on NTV.

Makes you love the bible, doesnt it?

Anyone who defends gay people is evil and deeply flawed. For me, I cannot but thank those who defend me. Here is an article from Human Rights Watch about what has been happening in Kenya.

See, the evil Human Rights watchdog, like Amnesty International which are bent on 'spreading homosexuality' are the ones who are speaking up on a horrid tale of murder and mayhem, a pogrom happening in Mombasa and the nearby town of Mtwapa.

Ethic cleaning in Kenya. Led by a Bishop, and Moslem clerics. No, I am not lying to you. Re-read that post.

It is no shame, knowing what the anti-gay activists in Uganda, Kenya are in for. Ethnic Cleansing. And more.

It is a shame if you dont read the law, and dont understand that this law is going to affect virtually everybody. Someone estimates that it is so badly written that 80% of those who will be arrested will be those who are actually not gay. Just on the off chance that the government gets a gay person, and imprisons them for life, or kills them. Check out this video assesment of it.

Porn in Church

Ahhhh! You know what I am talking about.

This post, if you havent seen it. And, this article.

I had prepared an attack against the Christians of Uganda. Using words like hypocrites, liars, hate mongers.... and such things. [Oh? Of course I do have enough evidence, however you may look at it. Their words. Their actions]
But I was pre-empted by news that some Christians have actually had enough. They are from the mainstream. And, they are going public with their opposition to the bill. A heart felt opposition, not the 'wish wash hypocrisy' of the Church of Uganda.

Christians will have to claim back their Church, if they are to have any more credibility. I am not willing to let them come to the realisation slowly, because, though I am not Christian, their 'representatives' are threatening this. I listened to Pastor Solomon Male on Agenda Uganda on NTV last night, and, if I had any more qualms at pointing at your dirty undergarments, why, they vanished.

So, this morning, I send this letter to my mailing list.

• MP David Bahati, who is doing all this in defence of the traditional family.
• MP Benson Obua Ogwal who calls me a gay pervert because the Bible calls me so. He co-sponsors the bill.
• MP Nsaba-Buturo who is a born again Christian, fierce proponent of the Bill, and the Minister for Ethics and Integrity. Oh, he is also the minister of morals, and thus porn.
• Speaker Ssekandi,... the man with the official final say with what goes on in parliament.
• Stephen Langa. Ha, the 'ideologue' behind the Anti-Homosexuality Bill. And a fierce defender of the family. But, presumably not against gay porn...!

Here is my letter.

Dear Sirs,

Last night, I watched Pastor Solomon Male on Agenda Uganda on NTV justifying the killing of gay Ugandans, because they could not, or would not change.

This morning, I see this article. Ugandan Pastor screens gay porn in Church.

Sincerely!

It would be laughable if it wasnt the truth. Of course Ssempa has done exactly the same thing many times. And, the Minister of Ethics and Integrity looks on... Martin Ssempa has screened gay porn at press conferences. He has done so at the National Theatre. He has done so at many other places which the press has simply not reported about. He has gone into graphic descriptions of gay porn on Television, and the Broadcasting Council is yet to caution any of the stations, or even the man of god.

Is it because it is Gay Porn? Or is it because it makes gay people look bad?

Or, will someone soon claim that there are laws against 'straight porn' and none against 'gay porn'?

This debate has reached, or has always been at the heights of hypocrisy.

Or, maybe it is the Christian thing to do, to screen porn in Church? Maybe I used to know a different Christianity.

Monitor on Jinja

The demonstrations happened in Jinja. And, for some reason, they didnt make it in the New Vision (they no longer report any news....!)

And, Monitor took its time reporting on the demos. Why? I dont know. But, I am picking their report to pieces here.

The Timeline.

• Sunday 14 Feb, the Inspector General of Police tells Ssempa that there will be no Million Man March on Kampala. Asks him to meet him Tuesday for a discussion.
• Monday 15 Feb, March in Jinja happened. Drew hundreds, lasted 2-3 hours. Even if it was 'impromptu' Here are some of the reports.

• The Monitor e-paper also reports that the Police blocked a similar demonstration on Tuesday in Kampala. That is what I was hearing from the fm stations yesterday. So, it does look more and more likely that Ssempa is going rogue. And, by the way, he has been announcing civil action, prayer and fasting through Lent. And, the an Easter Present of the bill as Law.
  Hmmmmm! Definitely rogue. Will be interesting to watch.

The reports from Jinja-

Hundreds of Jinja residents took to the streets on Monday in support of the anti-homosexuality Bill. Chanting messages peppered with anti-gay slurs and displaying placards denouncing the practice, the demonstrators made their way around the town led by religious leaders in a procession that brought business to a temporary stand still.

Western leaders rebuked

The demonstrators also criticised Western leaders’ disapproval of the Bill. “Obama leave Ugandans alone,” “Obama to hell with your aid,” were some of the messages written on the placards.

 “Of what importance is homosexuality to us? It is as if we have no brains. Let them keep their homosexuality and keep their money as well!” a woman among the shouting crowd yelled. 

Speaking following the procession that lasted about two hours, Pastor Martin Ssempa, one of the prominent supporters of the Bill, said it was a shame that the US president had taken to supporting the un-African custom and expected Uganda to follow suit. “Obama even if you do not give us money for medicine for our people, to hell with that money, we would rather die but die in dignity,” he said. 

He added: “This is Uganda and we also have our rights just like the Americans have theirs. We decide for ourselves what is good for us. So these leaders should leave us alone to make our own legislations that are good for us.” The clerics, who preached against the practice at a crusade held at the Kazi Mingi grounds in the town, also claimed the media had failed in its duty to fight the practice.

Pastor Matthias Sserugo said: “The anti-gay federation is not here to express their hatred for homosexuals but to tell them that they can change and society can accept them once more.” President Museveni recently expressed opposition to some sections of the proposed Bill noting that they would harm Uganda’s foreign policy.

Indeed. Straining at a gnat and swallowing a camel.

Whine, and Not

First,

You remember the Christians in Uganda who want to kill or imprison homosexuals?

They include the Pentecostal Pastors, and with less emphasis, after a careful parsing of the words, and a check of the Bible for something else, the Catholic and Anglican Church in Uganda.

I know you will protest. But, I am a single individual who will not say that the Church of Uganda loves homosexuals, despite the pontifications of 'loving the sinner and hating the sin.'. At least Ssempa is no hypocrite. He hates homosexuals with a passion, and is not above demonising them, and fully supporting measures to kill them. But the Church of Uganda? Hypocrites. And, that from a non-Christian.

And, let me go back to the Catholic Church in Uganda. For 2 months they kept quiet. Despite knowledge of their own doctrine. The Vatican jolted them with the statement at the UN.
And, it was only after that jolt, that they went ahead and said they dont support the Bill. Bahati's Bill.

And, as soon as they did that, they went on rampage in the Churches, on Christmas day of all days, to condemn and demonise us. Hypocrites, again.
The Pastoral Care of Homosexual peoples? Lack of love hidden in legalese. See how, err, non-Christian I am? Of a document written by a Cardinal now Pope. Indeed!

But, this is all about a group of Christians and Jews who have come out unequivocally against the Bahati bill.
No, it is not Rick Warren. Poor man was forced to come out against the bill. And then, he was so beaten by the hand he raised that he has since kept silent. But there are other Christians who dare to speak out. Outright, Forthright, and unequivocally.

They love homosexuals in the Name of Christ. And, they are not willing to put many words to lie to their love. I dont mind what churches they come from. I dont mind that they are Christians and Jews. I dont mind that they are far away.

And, I am not a believer. Neither in Judaism, nor in Christianity. Nor anything.

What I do mind is that they have come out and said something, in their own words, in love. And, since I cannot pick and choose the sound bites from their document. I am praising it. And recommending that you go read it. It is here.

I would recommend it to the Christians of Uganda. But, with the likes of Ssempa and Orombi as their examples of Christ, how can they really read and understand these words? But, they are here.

If Bahati and Benson Obua Ogwal do read them and learn something. All the best. If they dont, then this non-believer, a gay pervert, will continue pointing out how far they fall beneath the grace of their god. And, I promise to be gleeful. All the time! Again, here is the article. Do read these sincere loving words. And, try to understand them. Especially if you are a Christian who believes in the Bahati the Hero Bill. Here are the words.

Do you know any scientist?

Those nerds who speak in a language only they can understand. Here, they are trying to work out why we gay people are.

Apparently, they write an important article. And, what do I understand of it? Zilch.

Evolutionary Biology? Maybe they should devolve a little bit so that we understand what exactly they mean in the article. Judge for yourself. What is frustrating is the fact that they say something important and forget that we, the audience, need to understand what they say.

Justifying Hate. By Christians.

Writing that title, I thought to myself, who should get away with justfying hate?

Nobody. No religion. No rightly thinking person. But, people do justify hate.

It is strange to read the 'Free Press' and realise that freedom includes the right to tell lies. And, before you become incenssed at that, remember that for us to have real freedom of press, those who tell the lies have to be defended. By those who dont!

Awkward, isnt it? I am thinking of those who support Ssempa in America. They are pouring their own brand of lies on the objections to the bill. Know what they do? They dont read the bill. Its text is here. They just listen to what Ssempa says about the bill. So, when I come out and point to the lies, I am gleeful in pushing them into the same boat. Ssempa lies? They also lie.

No. I will not refence them from here. But, I will recommend that they read the bill. Hard to not understand it. If you know what I mean. Its in plain English

But, there are some people who still believe that the earth is flat. And, the sun goes around the earth which goes around the moon. They are very, very adamant. Just check out this post in the Independent, which defies all logic.
Dont hit out at me. It defies my logic. So it defies all logic. You get?

Now, the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda has written to the Monitor to explain why the Church of Uganda supports and doesnt support the Anti-Homosexuality bill of Bahati.
But, the major problem is that, when a person comes to me with lots of learning to prove to me why he should push a spear into my stomach, I see red. Anyway, it is no loss, this statement by the Archbishop.

I like it when Christians justify hate. It is so easy to shoot them down that, even I, the evil, disoriented homosexual, find joy in doing exactly that.
Thanks Orombi. For writing this and putting it in your names. I swear we shall not forget you. Just like we shall never forget Bahati. Let alone Ssempa!

And, you know what? Another Bahati lies, I believe Bahati Lies 3 is in the making. Cant throw away such a golden chance, can I?

Over there at 'Waking Up Now', they get into the fun, shooting down the lies. Of course they do. The Kill the Gay Bill? Oh no. It is the Kill the Straight Friend of the Gay' of course with the Gay too. How can one defend the gay?

And, they go ahead and give me permission to show Uganda's Gay Death March. Here it is.

So, the Campaign against the Bill continues. 

You remember what I blogged about, the guy from Mombasa, Kenya asking for prayers? I think this is what they were alluding to.
I have lived with my man for 9 years now. How can we get married when the constitution says that we cannot? Sometimes I believe the anti-gay panic is way out there offensive. Why do people throw away any kind of logical thinking when it becomes an issue about 'homosexuality'?

Bahati's lies? Think I am letting them go?

No. If he lies, I will say that he lies. If he doesnt, then I will be the liar. But, I will give it a break.

I have followed it twice, and was planning another angle of the Bahati lies. But, I will give them a break. After all, the guy does claim to be a Christian. But, I will come back to them. Promise.

And, I know others have gotten the bit between their teeth. Look you here.

Ssempa?

A guy writing for In-Accuracy in the Media is going full bore. He needs a little bit of pity... But, maybe not. If you make your bed with Ssempa, you richly deserve all the benefits of that lying down place...! Here, he gets a doze of his true desserts. But, people like Ssempa rarely get embarassed by truth revealed. And, someone who may or may not support him...

Ask Rick Warren. Recently, Ssempa is blasting his mentor. Did he really sell thousands of copies of the Purpose Driven Life? I have seen it on the street corners in Kampala. So, maybe he did.

And, hope you have seen that 30 Million USD is coming to Uganda. Not into poor gayuganda's coffers. But, for AIDS research.

Ugandans will be very happy to receive that. And of course then tell you that they will retain their right to kill their gays, and write oppressive laws.

The Church of Uganda released a statement, right?

Oh, they are politicians. Trying to parse their words. But again, they didnt actually read the bill that protects the 'boy child'. Seems that they have to be referred to this one again. Here. And, if you are not convinced, check out again the Bahati Lies posts on this blog.

No. I dont want to be killed because someone, a leader, an MP decides not to respect truth as I know it. If he doesnt lie, why, let him come up and show that he does not lie. Very easy. I am inviting him.

I know the Church of Uganda was trying to play hooky with responsibility. Here, someone else dissects their lack of support for the Bahati Bill.

Indeed, their lack of support for the bill is a very clever statement. It is true that we as Ugandans sometimes justifiably take pride in our intelligence. I mean, I must protest that the likes of Ssempa are the outliers... [ahem, dont you mention Idi Amin!] But, that statement from the Church of Uganda is very clever.

Just wait till it is in the proposals make it into the bill, then I will start shooting holes into it. Let them glory in their ignorance. Ha, they even noticed that the title of the bill was a non-seller! Ha ha ha ha!

I love democracy. The right to say, I dissent is jealously guarded. It allows us to think, to question. Of course there is always a problem when one sees lunatics listened to in the name of democracy. Lunatics like the pornography showing Ssempa. Why didnt the police arrest him, by the way? Here is another point of view on the opposition to the bill. Parse words? I dont like it.

Truth Wins Out has opened, or re-opened another front on the Anti-Homosexuality Bill. There are Christian Churches that do support the Anti-Homosexuality Bill. This post from the Throckmorton Blog identifies some such. And, I am told also Box Turtle Bulletin. Now, Truth Wins Out asks Christians to ask their local churches, politely, whether they do support the bill. You never know, your local church in the US may be part of the Anglican Province of Uganda. I kid you not!

This Gay Ugandan does thank you for that action.

I know it is not my efforts in Uganda that are punching holes in the support for the Bill. Did I note the overboard support for the bill that the Church of Uganda came up with at the beginning? They were shouting things like 'imperialism' and in the face of their dear brothers and sisters in the west, because those did NOT support a genocidal bill.

I dont have to detail the statements that were made by the Provincial Secretary of the Church of Uganda, I believe he is the official spokesperson.

But now, they come out 'not' supporting the bill.

That was a coup.

Forget their play with words, supporting, not supporting, playing hide and seek. Bask in the knowledge that they were forced to read the bill, and, ultimately came out not supporting it. The Catholics were very predictable. Their doctrine is set in stone.

But, Uganda's protestants? I didnt think it possible that they would come out AGAINST the bill. Just read the Bishop of Karamoja's thoughts on the bill if you want a representative sample of the venom and hate that has been coming out of the halls of these Princes of the Church of Christ.

The moral high ground has to be undermined, to be removed from these un-Christian Christians. I know Ssempa is doing a good job of that, but there are many others who are doing the same things, all in the name  of Christ. Or, they are hiding in ignorance, supporting their leaders blindly. In most cases, those people have read their Bibles. Ask them to read the Bill. Text is here. That might have a salutary effect on their enthusiasm.

Increadibly, there are some Americans who want to be in a place like Uganda.

Such foolishness is beyond my limp imagination. Their country is built on the principles of freedom. Real freedom. But they cannot but delude themselves.

Maybe they hate homosexuals so much they would rather be in a country that jails them than one that allows them to be themselves. Americans. I do salute you. Here is an article about that very, err, tendency!

Bahati Lies 2

Remember my contention that Bahati Lies?

Of course he lies. He says that the current law in Uganda does not protect boys from sexual predators, and for that reason, he has kindly produced a law that does. In the post above,  I have shown you the law on aggravated defilement as it is current in the Republic of Uganda today. It definately deals with boys and girls. It is gender neutral, am told is the language.

But, maybe Bahati was asleep when that law was passed. He was a member of parliament in 2007 when it became law. So, maybe he doesnt remember. Forget the fact that Dr. Tamale has again and again tried to debunk this lie of Bahati and Ssempa (that one is defending the precious 'boy child') Let us say that Bahati simply, very much like a human does, he forgot, and has not had the trouble to check out the law as it is at the moment.

But wait a second. Do you want to read the law for 'aggravated defilement' as it was written? Here it is below. From the Penal Code Act, Revision

129(3)

Any person who performs a sexual act with another person who is below the age of eighteen years in any of the circumstances specified in subsection (4) commits a felony called aggravated defilement and is, on conviction by the High Court, liable to suffer death.

129(4)

The circumstances referred to in subsection (3) are as follows-

(a) where the person against whom the offence is committed is below the age of fourteen years;

(b) where the offender is infected with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV);

(c) Where the offender is a parent or guardian of or a person in authority over, the person against whom the offence is committed;

(d) where the victim of the offence is a person with a disability; or,

(e) where the offender is a serial offender

And, I hope you want to read the section on aggravated homosexuality as written by Bahati in the Bahati bill.

(1) A person commits the offense of aggravated homosexuality where the

(a) person against whom the offence is committed is below the age of 18 years;

(b) offender is a person living with HIV;

(c) offender is a parent or guardian of the person against whom the offence is committed;

(d) offender is a person in authority over the person against whom the offence is committed;

(e) victim of the offence is a person with disability;

(f) offender is a serial offender, or

(g) offender applies, administers or causes to be used by any man or woman any drug, matter or thing with intent to stupefy overpower him or her so as to there by  enable any person to have unlawful carnal connection with any person of the same sex,

(2) A person who commits the offence of aggravated homosexuality shall be liable on conviction to suffer death.

(3) Where a person is charged with the offence under this section, that person shall undergo a medical examination to ascertain his or her HIV status.

Do you notice any similarities? Do you notice any differences? Do you still doubt that the Rt. Honourable Bahati is consistently, consciously telling a lie when he insist that the law does not cover male children who are abused?

I am going to make some very serious conclusions. Based on the evidence above, of course.

Number 1; Mr David Bahati is very aware of the amendment to the Defilement clause of the Penal Code Act.

Number 2; While writing the 'aggravated homosexuality' section of the Bahati bill, Mr David Bahati had access to the current law on defilement, and used it as a template for his bill.

Number 3; The changes between the 'aggravated defilement' and the 'aggravated homosexuality' part of the bill shows that Mr Bahati wilfully wanted to extend the death penalty and life imprisonment to homosexuals like me who had nothing to do with sex with children. It was not a mistake. It was not a slip of the pen. It was a calculated move to extend the death penalty provisions to gay people who 'qualified' in Mr. Bahati's hate scale.

Now, those are my conclusions, according to the evidence before me.

I am quite willing to see a rebuttal to this. Even if it is from the Rt. Honourable David Bahati.

What do you have to say to this, good Christian, who is born again and does not hate homosexuals and just wants them to change?

Will someone nudge David Bahati and tell him that this challenge is out there for him to beat or not?

Reaction

I was looking for Buturo's reaction. Or, government reaction. It was fast, very, very fast.

Especially given the fact that the Monitor and NV had nothing in them... Ha, if he reacted so fast, that means he was waiting for it. Of course he was. And, his reaction?

"Somebody should tell President Obama that the parliament is doing its legislative duty in the interest of the people of Uganda," James Nsaba Buturo, Ugandan minister of ethics and integrity, told AFP.

Of course, Uganda's parliament should be late to do its legislative duty to kill of Uganda's homosexuals.

Buturo, one of the main Ugandan proponents of the bill which would further criminalise homosexuality and even gay rights advocacy, vowed that Ugandan MPs would not be swayed by US or any outside criticism.

"We cannot tell the Senate what to do. We cannot tell Congress what to do. So why do they feel that they can tell us what we should do in the interest of our people?" he asked.

"It is totally unacceptable," Buturo added, in reference to any attempt by some of Uganda's partners to reverse the adoption of the bill.

"Members of parliament have a constitutional duty to choose between what the people of Uganda want and what others want, and I am sure they will choose what the people of Uganda want," he said. 

You see, it is true. Members of the Parliament of the Republic of Uganda have a sovereign duty to legislate GENOCIDE. Because, that is what this bill is.
And, what the world so harshly said, 'No more'

And, by the way, the resolution from the US congress was apparently from both Houses. Interesting. It has taken on some gigantic proportions.

No. Before you ask, on the whole, we Ugandans are NOT stupid. Not all of us.

Bahati was not at the Prayer Breakfast. But, from someone who was there, here is an account. He went chasing down the 'spiritual head of the Fellowship'

This opposition seems entirely consistent with the events I attended here yesterday. For instance, the welcome card for the African Breakfast described this ”value of a small group”

As noted repeatedly by all I talked to here yesterday, including Ugandans present, the Anti-Homosexuality Bill is completely inconsistent with this statement.

Hey, did you note that there WERE some Ugandans there?

Yes, there were some. And, notice their reaction? Who were they? Dare they reveal their names?

Legal sanctions for homosexuals behaviour are biblical? Thank the gods I am not a Christian. Am very, very thankful. But, my lover is.

And, some Christians who support Ssempa released a non-statement statement. Ever heard of one of those? They make me furious. Why not just say.. NOTHING.

I just dont like people who persecute me in the name of religion. It is such a cowardly place to hide- saying, this must be so, because, well, this BOOk says so. Because the book is never, ever wrong.

When Archbishop Livingstone Nkoyoyo, former Anglican Archbishop of Uganda returned home following the 1998 Lambeth Conference, he made sure to tell a press conference at Entebbe Airport that the Anglican Communion was behind him and President Musevene to extend hasher laws on homosexuality. In concert with his bishops (who influence one third of the population of Uganda and a higher proportion of government ministers and Uganda’s elite) the Archbishop began a crusade against Ugandan homosexuals blaming western and particularly Episcopal Church influence. This was clearly unfounded a lie. With a Bush White House and greater financial influence from American fundamentalists, the movement to misrepresent the Anglican Church’s position on homosexuality created a Frankenstein. Nkoyoyo said nothing about either the listening process, the need to condemn homophobia and violence against LGBT people and extending pastoral care, all recommendations to the world wide Anglican family contained in Resolution 1:10. He also never mentioned Resolution I: I, committing to uphold the Declaration of Human Rights. The Church of Uganda was never publicly reprimanded by the Anglican Communion Office or the Archbishop of Canterbury, or indeed any significant body of peer bishops for their misuse. Silence equals endorsement.

Yeah, I have lived this history. In a very real way. Yet, to say that I realised the significance of what was happening would have been a lie. I just didnt know. And, now that I have seen what is happening, I look back and say, wow!

When the history of this sad chapter in the life of the church is written, we may discover that Anglicans are the architects of this monster, now manifested in Uganda and about to spread to other parts of the African church. Later, leaders like Rick Warren and Exodus international would bring their own distinctive body parts to this new creation.

On 17th February, Pastor Martin Ssempa is threatening to bring one million angry Ugandans on to the streets of Kampala to show Musevene’s government that “God fearing Christians” want no leniency for their gay and lesbian brothers and sisters. Musevene is now caught between the unanimous outcry of the international community and even the Vatican against this further violation of human rights, and the Frankenstein we have helped to create. 

The whole article is worth reading.

I know, PhD theses will be written about what has been happening in Uganda. And, the final chapter is not yet done. Fact is, living history is kind of exciting.

But, but, but...

It sure is stressful!

Ok. Now, lighten up. I hate, with a huge H, people who justify things that they should use a little bit of commonsense about. I think that is the source of my irritation with Comrade 27th. He takes his vaunted ideals, or one of them, divorces them from reality, and then goes ahead to pontificate.

I hate that, because it is simply a glorification of unthinking logic. Logic divorced from reality. And, here is one Ugandan journalist who is fighting for David Bahati's right as a member of parliament to move the Private Members bill.
Quick reaction to that is- you know what, dear friend, a member of parliament in Uganda has the right to piss and pile his feaces on the floor of Uganda's parliment. I think even that is protected by the constitution of Uganda. Isnt it?

I have worked the computer battery to the last few seconds of life. Power is off again... Normal thing, these days.
