The Pastor Wars. Episode XXX…!

Remember Pastor Ssempa’s crusade of naming and shaming rivals as homosexuals? Well, he went and attacked a prominent rival, and then the police investigated. And the president was involved. And, and, and…!

Well, the saga of investigations has wound down. The hysteria and public interest was so much that the newspapers were gagged. For the time being. That shut down the allegations. But now, this increadible story is concluding, or seeming to. A reminder, there were allegations of sodomy, and of rape. There were kidnappings, and then witnesses who suddenly changed their stories. There was talk of huge monies exchanging hands. From the accusing pastors to the sodomy victims. There were whispers and rumours and rumours of whispers. And the country was in uproar, for a good month or so.

Results of the Police investigation. Fabricated charges. The good pastors (Ssempa, Male, Ssemuju, Kayira) who are god’s chosen anti-gay warriors were actually fabricating evidence to bring down a rival. All in the name of .. the Anti-Gay Agenda.

And you know Ssempa’s defence. Outrage. The police are biased, corrupt, corrupted, and fearing the political strength of Pastor Kayanja.

This soap opera is best read, not in my biased words, but in those of the Monitor Newspaper.

Police get Kayanja off the hook; charge pastors

CHRIS OBORE

Kampala

Police have cleared Pastor Robert Kayanja of Miracle Centre Cathedral of sodomy allegations. Instead, the Police have written to the Director of Public Prosecutions urging him to brings charges against four pastors who reportedly assisted some people to allege that Pastor Kayanja had sodomised them.

According to the report entitled Sodomy cases against Pastor Kayanja, a copy of which Sunday Monitor has obtained, there is no evidence to pin Pastor Kayanja.

The police investigators concluded thus: “In each of the complaints of sodomy against Pastor Robert Kayanja, the investigations did not reveal any evidence of such offence(s) committed. Further, following medical examination of the complainants, the Police surgeon did not find any evidence of sodomy.”

The report furthers states that pastors Martin Sempa, Moses Solomon Male, Michael Kyazze, Felix Semujju and Bo Kayiira reportedly influenced Pastor Kayanja’s accusers.

The Police say one of the complainants Samson Mukisa used pseudo names.

“The complainant’s real name is not Samson Mukisa as alleged in the affidavit, he is Musasizi Robert Kaliba. He has never been a member of Miracle Centre and a leader of Music Group ‘A’ and there is no Music Group ‘A’ at Miracle Centre Rubaga,” reads the police report.

The police say all the complainants retracted their earlier statements against Pastor Kayanja saying that they had been incited by the four pastors to wrongly accuse Kayanja.

“In a statement dated 15th and 20th May 2009 Mukisa retracted the allegation indicating he had not been sodomised by Pastor Kayanja but was influenced by Pastors Male, Kayira, Kyazze, Sempa and Semujju as to make the allegations,” reads the report.

“I, therefore, recommend that the persons who conspired and mobilised the complainants to make false allegations against Pastor Robert Kayanja be charged with the offence of conspiracy to injure the reputation of Pastor Kayanja, contrary to Section 392(b) of the Penal Code Act,” reads the report prepared by D/SP Grace Akullo.

Ms Akullo who is the Acting Commissioner for General Crimes also wrote: “I further recommend that the persons who were so mobilised be retained as witnesses in this case.”

The police also say Pastor Kayira and Pastor Kyazze had “planned to trespass in the Rubaga based Miracle Centre Cathedral with intent to steal property of the Miracle Centre Rubaga.”

They say Pastor Kayira was arrested from within Miracle Centre Rubaga area in company of a motorcycle rider one Seremba Gadafi whom he had hired from Namasuba.

However, the accused pastors sounded unbothered yesterday. “I have not yet seen the report but it was expected. The investigative machinery of Police is controlled by people who shield criminals,” said Pastor Male.

“The police have actually worked for Kayanja but we will be happy to be in the dock and prove that Police and Kayanja are the same,” he added.

Early this year, Pastor Kayanja paid for the sprucing up of Old Kampala Police Station in a move some people believe was to soften the ground for himself ahead of the homo scandal.

And another pastor, Martin Sempa said yesterday that “we have had low hope in the capacity of Police to be unbiased.”

“This is a travesty of justice. Even before they examined the statement of Kayanja, they had declared him innocent,” said Pastor Sempa.

He said they were shocked that police would stoop so low as to protect a powerful individual and not the victims.

“This case had drama, there were fake kidnaps and the boys were taken through a tortuous process,” he said. Pastor Ssempa however revealed that they had several other sodomy victims whom they will present to court as witnesses. He said they feared to present the victims to police because they had taken sides with Pastor Kayanja.

“Police itself is under investigation; its Police on trial,” he said adding that: “Police buildings were renovated by Robert Kayanja.” The pastors are furious that the police were hindering the fight against sexual abuse in the Church.

They said Good Samaritans were now being prosecuted for helping victims and have also called upon parents and other Church leaders to stand firm in the fight against sodomy which is a criminal offence under Uganda’s laws.

and the same from Ugpulse

Uganda Police have written to the Director of Public Prosecutions requesting him to bring charges against four pastors who reportedly assisted some people to allege that Pastor Kayanja had sodomised them.

The development is contained in the police report entitled Sodomy cases against Pastor Kayanja, a copy of which Ultimate Media has seen. The report says that Police found out no evidence to pin Pastor Kayanja.
The report furthers provides that pastors Martin Sempa, Moses Solomon Male, Michael Kyazze, Felix Semujju and Bo Kayiira reportedly influenced Pastor Kayanja’s accusers.

so the report recommends that the persons who allegedly conspired and mobilized the complainants to make false allegations against Pastor Robert Kayanja be charged with the offence of conspiracy to injure the reputation of Pastor Kayanja, contrary to Section 392(b) of the Penal Code Act

@Anonymous: Wishing upon them what they visited upon the ones they hate makes you exactly like them. There is infinite wisdom in the seemingly-stupid "turn the other cheek" that the Nazarene taught. Think upon that.

@GUG: I thought that, once again, I should comment. At this rate, I may as well restart in earnest, as things were before my hiatus! :o)

But here's my point for today. I think that, in Uganda's moral propaganda, there is nothing quite as damaging as the allegation that one is a homosexual. And so people pull it out at will, in the same fashion that they would a gun or a sword.

Of course, if the charge ("you're a homosexual!") didn't have so much stigmatising value, it would be equivalent to the charge of "you're a corrupt official!", which one would be tempted to think is praise, from looking at how prevalent the charge is yet how it isn't exactly stigmatised. That is strange, considering that who one fucks isn't exactly as damaging as how many lives one cuts short due to embezzling money (for example).

So the real issue here is that Pastor Ssempa and friends have created a weapon of sufficient viciousness, and now they start to leverage it against enemies. This is where the paradox hits. This is where everybody will see the folly in having thought "it is the homos being persecuted - why should I care, since I am not one of them, and I am therefore exempted?"
Because, now, you don't even have to be a homosexual before they stone you to death. We let them get the power to invoke hate on the mention of one word (for the Nazis it was "Jew!" and "Homosexual!", for them it is "Homosexual!", and the effect is the same).

Now that power lies in the hands of people we know to be hate-mongers. But not just that: anybody can now grab this weapon and wield it. Think about it: anybody can now condemn anybody with dramatic results of imposing immediate pariah-hood upon the subject.
How did we get here? Fuck.
In closing, I'll just say that the hate-mongers are not practising what the Nazarene taught. They are Pharisees - the arch-enemies of the Nazarene. Also, people like me who disagree with some general stances of the Ugandan (and, in general, the African) homosexuals, be it on moral grounds (for other people) or on political grounds (like myself), should make it clear that they do not agree with the more-base aspects of the homophobic campaign.

Now, I never let myself close on good terms with you, GUG, so here goes: I hope you remember that I hate how you homosexuals hug the West too fucking much. Isn't it this same West that taught the homophobia that currently beats you on the head? Wake up!

Well, well, welllllll!!!!!

27th took some time off to major in Philosophy??????

Anon was, is angry. I know where he is coming from....

And 27th,
more mature, well reasoned, very. I will not try to add onto it.
As to your oft repeated charge of me hugging the west, well dude, look at the screen infront of you. Product of the west... That you so hate? Or is it a clone from the east? You want me to be like the Nigerians who for the sake of Islam want to reject formal schooling because it is coming from the west?

Or think it this way, In my beautiful country, I am so stigmatised that the very mention, whisper of what I am is a disgrace, a sentence of death. Proof or no proof. But I should not embrace those who have in part given me life saving information. Because when I do that, I embrace the west. And very closely.

No comrade. You will have to give me some viable choices before you so easily condemn me for 'embracing the west'

PS Comrade...

The 'them' and 'us' concept applies not only for homos and non homos, or as you put it, the Ssempa's stigmatisation of homo, but also for the 'west' and 'non west'. Understand what I mean?
