The Tombs, and other news

Last night, the Kasubi Tombs were burnt.

Origin of the fire? Speculation. But, the anti-government sentiment amongst the Baganda is very high, and, guess who is the natural suspect.
Will there be any more riots in Buganda?

Can only watch and wait.
The Tombs are a world heritage site. Sometimes we forget our history in petty bickering, but Buganda is a 900 year kingdom. We might have our differences and thoughts. The burning down of such a place rich in our culture, [and that is our culture as Ugandans], is a big setback.

But, politics is the over-riding factor at the moment.

And, it is like someone is dead. The traditional Ganda greeting on a death in the family, on the village- that is the greeting this morning.

Here is a report from the New Vision. And, guess why the people were stopping the police from intervening. And, why the Government paper is trying to put the blame on ‘rioters’. And, why the fire trucks were damaged. It has started.

Seems as if my own troubles are just a tick on an elephant to this.
I will watch. My lover is scared. His experiences during the September riots were not very good.

And yes, the Baganda are blaming the President. And, rumours of arson.

----
In other news. Here is Minister Buturo explaining the reasons why immorality is destroying the world. It is eerie.. Without mentioning the word gay or homosexual once (I haven’t seen it in the article. Maybe you do!), he blames the world’s break up of family on gays.

But, of course I am being paranoid. It is just that before, diatribes like this from the honourable minister were squarely aimed at homosexuals. A clear and present danger.

Talk of people who are ‘destroying the fabric of family’, that Malawian couple is going to be convicted. Don’t think the intervention of these British MPs is going to matter. I wonder what prison is like? Gallows humour.

Still in Southern Africa, there is something funny going on in Zimbabwe. The opposition and Mugabe’s party have differing views of homosexuality. Guess which party wants a constitutional ban on being gay, or lesbian, or sodomy, etc etc…!

Talking of Uganda, someone takes on the pseudo science of anti-gay people. And, Comrade 27th in the comments comes up with his own view of that.
I have become healthily disgusted with intellectual dishonesty. If it is mine, I will ask for forgiveness. But, I am disgusted when it comes from politicking from my side, or another side, or any side. Truth to say, I am discovering the phenomenon from politicking on the anti-gay side… Clothing hate in the hypocrisy of love. I take on 27th comments with disgust. I just hate a person with demonstrable intelligence tryig to justify the unjustifiable. All in the name of making a ‘point’.

Public health, HIV and anti-gay laws. I am willing to listen to the experts. Maybe 27th has a comment to the contrary? Guess I will give that a pass. Remember intellectual dishonesty?

No, I am no prude at dishing out some things. Especially my opinion.

Be well,

gug

I am no angel.

But, I will take exception to being labeled a devil. For I am not. Just human, that is what I am. A human being. Different of course. Gay. A gay Ugandan. But just human.

A very lovely day is open.
Woke in the arms of my lover. Held him close, savouring the heat, warmth; the closeness, feeling him body to body, skin to skin. Fact, it is amazing that love between two human beings can be characterized as evil. Simple reason that I will continue protesting, even when the hangman’s noose is tightening. I am not evil. Neither is my love, our love. Neither is our pleasure. We are a couple of humans that happen to be different. And, for that difference, our country mates think us the cusp of evil.

Now, a roundup.

----
Is this the time to appoint an avowed homophobe to be the ambassador to Uganda? Some think not. While others dispute the homophobe label.
I am kind of amused by politics. If one says that the sun is hot, someone will either ask for proof of that statement, or will just say, the sun is COLD. It is as if merely stating a lie out boldly makes it truth. Like Ssempa.
But maybe I should not be amazed. It does work. People out there are not into researching, finding facts, cross checking. And, people are not ashamed of writing and saying lies even when they know there are lies. Even professional religion people- Christians, Moslems. As long as they support their own particular bit of the agenda. I hope I haven’t yet lost that naivety and sense of incredulity. Well, I am an old African village boy. I will preserve a few of my ideals!

But, of course Pastor Ssempa disagrees. Vociferously!
Here is his article, and he goes ahead to offer President Zuma some threats. The guy does think lots of himself!
Statement from Pastor Martin Ssempa and the Family Policy and Human Rights Centre to President Jacob Zuma not to jeopardise Uganda/South African relations by cancelling Mr. Jon Qwelane as Envoy to Uganda.
He has formed another group now? Gosh, the guy is prolific...
And, have you noted something? This itinerant preacher, unelected, but undoubtedly charismatic and... (low in brains????) is actually stating that he determines Uganda's foreign policy. Well, seems there has been a gap. He has been doing a stellar job, and so, maybe the Emperor will so appoint him!
We would like to support your wise decision to send Mr. Jon Qwelane as South African envoy to Uganda and request that you do not listen to the homosexual extremists who are demanding that you disqualify him, and rather send an extreme homosexual propagandist. We have also learnt that because of Mr. Jon Qwelane views which are strong on traditional marriage, and who does not put sodomy as a major pillar of his foreign policy agenda, homosexual groups are demanding that you cancel his appointment.
What happened to 'sodomites'?
We would like to say that Mr. Jon Qwelane views of understanding the importance of a traditional family are in tandem with Uganda’s society where sodomy is a crime against the order of nature. This is due to our national values contained in the legal, religious, cultural and natural beliefs. South Africa needs an evoy who understands Uganda’s societal views, and does not place the expansion of sodomy as the top agenda of his foreign policy. Therefore the  cancelling of Mr. Jon Qwelane appointment due to  pressure of homosexuals in South Africa threatens the delicate and good relationships between Uganda and South Africa.
I am not very sure that Mr. Jon Qwelane does appreciate the recommendation. But then, life means one cannot control the mouth, and brains, of other people...!
We take this letter to remind you  that South Africa has vast strategic economic interests in Uganda in the areas of communications, energy, banking, food and mineral sectors. These include household names such as MTN, Eskom, Stanbic, Nandos, and many others. The de-selection of Mr. Jon Qwelane and sending to Uganda someone who pleases the homosexual groups in South Africa threatens the good social standing of these companies in light of our nations values. You need to carefully weigh what is South Africa’s strategic interest in our nation and region. Is it business or sodomy?
Told you. Foreign policy dictated by Ssempa and Co. This guy would do good in a theocracy. Iran?
Cancelling Mr. Jon Qwelane appointment and sending someone else due to the pressure of the homosexuals will trigger a widespread civil society protest which stands to affect the South African businesses in Uganda. This may incude the boycotting of your businesses as a means of sending our message across. A recent national survey showed that more than 95 percent of Ugandans are opposed to sodomy. Mr. President you have been to Uganda and understand our deeply cherished culture on the tradional family which is why you have proposed Mr. Jon Qwelane as the envoy to Uganda. We ask that you continue with your wise and prudent appointment of Mr. Jon Qwelane as the envoy to Uganda.
Ahem, ahem. Maybe I should note that the Independent published the article, (I wonder why? ) on its blog, and immediately disclaimed the views expressed in the article!

------
Does AGOA really matter?
It is the Africa Growth and Opportunity Act, and it was once championed by Museveni. Now, it is not such a big dollar earner. Wonder whether Museveni would sacrifice it? It might not be the money. It might be the prestige, which does matter a lot to our President.
Personally, I am not sure. But, here is the article in the Independent.
---
I mentioned Anand Grover before. An independent UN expert giving some sage advice to Uganda. I didn’t know that actually the guy is THE UN Special Rappoteur on Health.
Come to think of it, lots of health officials have spoken out against this bill. The text is here if you would like it.
It is a horrible piece of legislation.
Fact. It is. And, it is truly universal in outreach. It is not only the homosexuals who are affected. [Death and life time imprisonment is what they suffer], but the priests suffer, so do the doctors, and so does HIV care and prevention. Of course it is a human rights violation. But, as Minister Nsaba Buturo says, ‘Homosexuals can forget about Human Rights.’ But, you see, Ugandans are so hell bent on killing away their homosexuals and ridding Uganda of this ‘evil’ that, none of this counts. What is important is that they are killed. That Uganda is a leader.
“Lessons from the last 30 years of the HIV epidemic have shown us that recognition of the rights of people with different sexual identities is a necessary component for a successful HIV and health response,” stressed the UN expert.
“In many countries where sex between men is not criminalized and where stigma and discrimination have been reduced, men who have sex with men are more likely to take up HIV prevention, care and support and treatment services,” he added.
“I urge the Ugandan Parliament to build on its past successes in responding to HIV and to refrain from passing this Bill,” said Grover, while strongly supporting the President and other members of the Government in their attempts to prevent the initiative of some members of the Parliament that the bill becoming law.
He said: “Uganda is in the great danger of taking a step backwards – away from realizing human rights for its people and away from an effective, evidence and rights-based HIV response.”

I did say something about a high school in Oregon, called Southridge High School that did go ahead to hold a march on our behalf. On behalf of the Kuchus of Uganda, in the name of a common humanity.
Here are some photos.

Yes, for some people, including me, we still believe in a common humanity. In  love instead of hate. In being together even when we are different. We are together even if we are so abundantly different. Again, I salute you, Southridge High School.
----
I did want some more details on what happened in Washington DC, at a Congressional hearing about the bill in Uganda. Here is a pic from the Metro Weekly.

and, the story. Julius Kaggwa represented us.

He actually says that the pressure that is being metted out can be counter productive.

Hey, don’t you be stopped by that. Actually, my logic is that of a soldier. We are at war, and, firing your gun will have bad effects on you. You will be wreathed in the fumes. The missile might not hit the right target. Or, it might be off target by a few meters.

But, to me that is no excuse or hinderance to firing the gun. Be serious. If you don’t fire your gun, if you don’t pull the trigger, your enemy is going to kill you. It is as simple as that. There is a time to worry about consequences. That is when you are relaxed, and the strain of battle is off and the adrenaline is down, and you can do it. Not when you are in the heat of battle.

Push. And be unrelenting in the push.

If we had been finicky in calling out for world attention to this bill,[text here] it would have been law already. Actually, we have nothing to lose. And, I am not ashamed to say that, when it is my country people, Ugandans who are acting this stupid. [Don’t make me repeat it], then forget about their fake nationalism.

27th will fume and rage. I called him a coward. I know it shut him up. Well, brother, would it have been better to call you stupid? I know you are not, so I will not. (But, of course I have a riposte to your question of how are you a coward. Will reserve it!) But, I will still call you a coward, and tell you, expect my call from the grave, and expect more naked speech from me.
Ugandans are acting stupid. Time we styled up and came to our senses. And, stop holding to the false drapes of ‘sovereignty’ and ‘nationalism’. Those clothes are too old, the excuses too worn out. Style up and face the facts that you do live in a community of adults.

If you don’t want to, then face the damn consequences. Period.

Hey, before I was derailed by my rant, I was saying that, the US guys should be aware that of course there is a pushback to the pressure they are exerting. Of course there is. And, guys like Ssempa and Buturo are gleefully using that as a ‘you see’ moment. Fine. Let them do it. Because it is simply what is expected.
But that shouldn’t stop you from pulling across your opinion, and pushing back. Stupid acts as stupid does. And, Ugandans are acting stupid. Leaning back and being accommodating is not going to have any effects, especially in solving our ‘stupid’ problem.

Now, I am being too naked and ugly and tough. But, we do need an adult around….! Though after reading the above, I doubt you will agree that I do qualify, do you?

I am a gay pervert after all. The country, my country plans to imprison me and kill me. And of course, like a sheep, I am not to bleet as the slit my throat. Because that will be unpatriotic.

Well, to damn hell with that false logic.

Got my point across, have I? In very unpolitic language. Definitely not politically correct. It is a waste of some necessary resources. Ahem!

Have a great day.

gug

PS. I really love the way Ssempa's poop fetishesm is working out. Guess the guy really needs to read the articles himself. Far as I can see, google Ssempa and poop. You may be suprised at what you find.... ha ha ha ha ha!
Ssempa, you are deservedly famous. Very!

Frothing.

I am guilty too of not being able to understand my enemies, and friends.

And, I am not ruthless enough to try not to understand them. An enemy should be an enemy, so, you should not understand him. You should just, err, do the necessary enemy things. Not so?

But, it is true that knowing an enemy can help you outmaneuvre him. Or her.

But, not being able to have a chat with a potential friend can sort of hold you in anger land. Eh, what am I talking about?
I am trying to figure out the geeky connections in a potential friend's brain circuits 27th Comrade. Hey, I know it is a love hate relationship. Those are the most valuable. He is not gay (hey, I have teased him about that, sometime ago. I was kind of trying to hit on him, and, suprisingly for a Ugandan, he was not too unfazed!) And, the friendship has been cyber, mostly.
What infuriates me is the bloody idealism...  He tells me that he is defending his right to kill me, and also my right to life. Go figure....! I do think it is a developing conversation. He is that persistent. Just follow the comment thread to this post.

So, big brother South Africa appoints a homophobe as ambassador to Uganda. At this day and at this time. Someone asks me what I think about that....!
Maybe the answer is too clear. Maybe I just need to follow the line. Africa has 52 countries. Most of them have Ambassadors or reps from SA. For the govt of SA to come out and decide to appoint a known homophobe to Uganda at this time as an Ambassador to Uganda is a very clear message. So, I will not parse words by trying to explain it.
Check out the Truth Wins Out article here. Fact is, it is expressed better than I ever could. Me, I would just be frothing with the need to pour out the words. And, they would be incomprehensible.

Some Ugandan muslims will form Anti-gay vigilante squads to help Ssempa to wipe out homosexuality from Uganda. Oh, it is nothing new. They have stated that intention before. Now, the good Christian Pastor Ssempa is getting extra-legal muscle to his anti-gay efforts in Uganda. Just in case the bill does not become law. Have you read the bill? Text is here. The aim is to wipe out homosexuality from Uganda. And, it goes a fair way, in a legal way.
Oh, before you ask, Ssempa did hear the statement. Far as I know, he has not talked to a crucial member of his Coalition to wipe out Homosexuality from Uganda. Most likely those activities will be necessary. See, Ssempa's Christian credentials go only as far as the need to achieve that grand objective goes. Anything goes, according to Ssempa. Oh yes, just read the bill that he supports. Killing, jailing, anything goes for Christian Pastor Ssempa, as long as the human being it is done to is a Homosexual.

Frothing can only go so far. Of course there are plenty of people who dont share my point of view about my sexuality. But, since it is my sexuality, I would rather that they leave me alone instead of threatening me with prison and death.
But, there are others who plain dont see the sense of killing me because I am homosexual. And, they are standing up and voicing their point of view, to hell with the sovereign arguments of Uganda. UK lawmakers did so. Which I thank them for. I dont know whether their Ugandan counter parts will listen to them. You see, if any advice is to do with giving Uganda money, the politicians will say, thanks, with a very wide smile. Give some advice on corruption, the smile will go, but, they will listen. Give any advice on not killing or jailing homosexuals. The smile is replaced by a snarl, and you are infringing on the sovereignty of Uganda. Donor, shut up. (27th, read, understand that, do you?)

Hey, the British parliamentarians are not going to be duped by Ssempa's lies. They have read the bill. They cite it. Pretty accurately. Why Ssempa and Bahati lie when the bill text is public is something I do not understand. But, they do. I am aware that Bahati is no longer lying about the text as strongly as Ssempa. But,....! Here is what the UK MPs say.

The EDM, drafted by east London Labour MP Harry Cohen, urges the Ugandan government  to “uphold international humanitarian law by abandoning the Anti-Homosexuality Bill, decriminalizing same-sex acts between consenting adults in private, and outlawing discrimination against gay people.”
British MPs are especially appalled that the Bill proposes the death penalty for “serial offenders” --people who commit homosexual acts more than once-- and life imprisonment for merely touching another person with homosexual intent.

Pretty interesting document that, the bill that Bahati drafted. One needs to read it to really understand how heinous, how terrible it is. Because it is. No hyperbole, no shading of it. You do need to read it.

And, another thing which the 'sovereignty' argument doesnt wash with, Uganda is part of the international community, and does have to live by the International agreements it has signed. (the bill wants to nullify all of them. In the interests of keeping Uganda as a Homosexuality Free Zone.)

Pretty Hitlerish. All those things of a Master Race and a Master people. Cleansing. Problem is, even Bahati is shocked when he is compared to Hitler. No, he says, that is not the aim of the bill. It is not a death, or hate bill.

The UNAIDS chief says legislation like this just makes closets more cosy for us homosexuals. So, despite Bahati and Ssempa believing that the bill is an HIV prevention measure (I am NOT joking), it will help the virus spread. Here is the article.

[They] are going underground; they are hiding themselves and continuing to fuel the epidemic," UNAIDS executive director Michél Sidibé told IRIN/PlusNews recently. "We need to make sure these vulnerable groups have the same rights everyone enjoys: access to information, care and prevention for them and their families."
Some group called amFar, the Foundation for AIDS Research weighs in on that here.
“This bill is a violation of human rights.  If enacted, it would force LGBT Ugandans further underground, undermining the efforts of local organizations to provide essential HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment education and services,” said Kent Klindera, manager of amfAR’s MSM Initiative, which provides support to grassroots MSM organizations around the world—including a group in Uganda whose work would be outlawed under the terms of the proposed legislation and whose members would be imprisoned.

Sigh, I dont need to go searching over the web for the number of times that Ssempa, and Bahati, have asserted that the Bill is an HIV prevention measure. Actually, Ssempa on Premier (?) Christian Radio of the UK actually blamed South Africa's epidemic on SA's advancement of gay marriage. We dont want another source of infection, he claimed.
So, will they listen to the experts? I doubt it!

Frothing is a word. It does mean something. Frothing at the mouth does mean something too.

I was commenting on my state of anger which seems to be kind of perpetual. I cannot imagine that I am fighting for my right to be alive, because my countrymates believe they have a right to kill me.
No, it is no abstract thing for me.
Which is why I will never take 27th theorising and jokes lightly. They are not jokes.

Have a great day.

The Mood in Uganda.

Good morning. It certainly is a beautiful one, here in Uganda.

Bright sun, warm on the skin. White light from a crystal blue heaven with very little cloud. Not too warm, not too hot. Just the caress on the skin.

This is going to be a two part post, of the mood in Uganda. First, I am taking you into the deeps. Show you what is, and what is the brutal reality in Uganda. Reality for me as a gay person, living and working in Uganda. One who is concerned about a bill in the land, which would make my hard life much harder.

The mood in the country.

I thought of writing this because of a few things. First, it was a blogger who calls himself Comrade 27th. He is a Ugandan. Calls himself a communist. The 27 has a significance and humour totally Ugandan, though some will not get it.
Its like the man himself. Deceptive and misleading.

27th was the first Ugandan blogger to engage me. While the others were coming in and peeping, and going away to write diatribes against homosexuality, he actually welcomed me to the blogosphere here… To the community of Ugandan bloggers.
Oh, they shied away from me. Which was understandable.
But, 27th did try to engage me, even when he is not gay. And, this is significant.

27th believes that we gay people are not all that bad. He believes that I as a gay Ugandan deserves his support in my fight against the bill. He has one pre-condition. He believes I should let go of my allies from the west. Actually, he wants me to let go before he gives me his support.
Well, he is a self confessed communist. The west is decadent and immoral and bad. Even when he desires all that the west can offer in education and material things. Even when he riles against religion which came from the west, which he knows so much about, he still has to maintain the politically correct but thoroughly hypocritical stance that the west is evil.

Because, that is what Ugandans believe. Sincerely, with little question, less insight.

Next comes this letter from a reader of the Observer newspaper.
He concedes that he feels something for the gay Ugandans. But, in his view, it is better to maroon them on an island so that they live there, and presumably die out. Or, they should all be given visas to America and Europe. So that they leave beautiful Uganda.

I was surprised that the Observer decided to publish it. Because it is a nonsensical piece of ignorance and stupidity. No please. Stop patronizing me by thinking that I am abusing the person, the writer. I am stating a fact as I see it. The writer has not taken trouble to research his knowledge, his hate. And, he blandishes it like a badge of honour. If that is not ignorance and stupidity, then what is?

Polarising words. Definitely not politically correct. But, I will not sacrifice clarity of thinking for political correctness. I am a gay Ugandan. By definition, in Uganda, I am NOT politically correct. In fact, I am evil. With a capital E.

I was surprised that the Observer editor published it. But not at the opinion itself. Because, too often, everyday, I do hear the same sentiments shared out and taken as facts by most Ugandans. Very few will dare to examine the veracity of the things Raymond Otika states as facts.

In response to the letter, a reader of the blog from America is full of despair. What the hell can be done to shake, to change such a frankly, openly, proudly genocidal person? And, he represents a nation, the popular opinion.

Ethnic Cleansing. That is his solution. That is Raymond Otika’s solution. Not different from what the Mufti proposed not so long ago. (search Mufti on this blog) The Mufti is the leader of Moslems in Uganda. And, he also requested the president to avail an island in Lake Victoria for us bad homosexuals. We would die out there. It is not very different from what David Bahati proposes in the Bill (text here). Life imprisonment, and death for the Homosexual Ugandan.

Now, there is this news article that was in the Monitor. (Monitor links keep on disappearing!)
The monitor is a daily. It is owned by the Agha Khan, I believe. They have a big newspaper empire in East Africa. In Uganda, I believe it also includes NTV television station.

They are independent. And, as such, they have been fighting the governments repressive and frankly hostile acts since time immemorial. They use the pen and logic to try to put the government excesses to shame. The government uses the law to repress them.

Uganda has been a strategic ally of the US for decades now. Since the time when President Museveni er, ascended to the title.
He is a very clever, manipulative politician.
He wooed Clinton, very effectively. When Bush W became president, he wooed him too. And, he was a darling of the west. Funny that 27th Comrade doesn’t notice that the 1st Comrade embraces the decadent west. But that is a by-the-way.

But, in the meantime, Museveni has grown more and more dictatorial. Fact.

We are having elections in 2011. Yesterday, a group of women political activists were violently arrested, and thrown into jail. For a demonstration against the fact that the ‘Independent Electral Commission’ as mandated by the Constitution of the Republic, is NOT independent. Of course, the constitution allows demonstrations. But, the police will only allow those which benefit the government. However peaceful. You are met with tear gas and battons. Beaten up. And, you are thrown into jail to nurse your injuries. That is what happens in Uganda.

Museveni’s Uganda embarrasses Barack Obama’s administration. An important ally. Fighting the war on terror in Somalia. But, at the same time brutal, violent, dictatorial. And, increasingly so. [By the way, expressing this opinion makes me more likely to be arrested and ‘questioned’ about my ‘seditious’ views. Hope Andrew Mwenda does win that Constitutional Court challenge.]

So, the Congress in the US has put some grim conditionalities on the money, the aid that the US gives to Uganda.
Independence of the Electoral Commission – a disputed matter locally, creating an accurate and verifiable voter registry; media freedom and citizens right to political assembly as well as timely announcement and posting of election results, are some of the salient issues the Congress wants sorted.
“The conferees direct the Secretary of State to submit a report to the Committees on Appropriations not later than 90 days after enactment of this Act and every 120 days thereafter until 30 days after the elections, detailing actions taken by the Government of Uganda to address these concerns,” reads the directive.

And, public opinion in Uganda is up in arms. Throw out the donor aid. Neo-colonialism. And all the assorted ‘isms’.

I have no doubt that the government is whipping up the hysteria. The govt is served by the corruption, and maintenance of the status quo. Because that is what will happen, with all this American help and aid coming to Uganda to help shore up the regime. So, the posturing happens.
The efforts of such activists, along with the agitation of lawmakers who are outraged that Mr Museveni backed down under pressure, are geared towards making the Ugandan leader understand that he made the wrong call.
“Uganda is a sovereign country, and we don’t need any lectures from the US,” said Buliisa MP Steven Mukitale, who chairs the Committee on National Economy.

See, what Comrade 27th would say, keep the damned dollars. And let us stay in our corrupt, dictatorship.

Me, I dissent. I do say no.

We accept the dollars because the politicians take the biggest amount of them. Fact. Most of them will be embezzled by the big whigs of the ruling party.
But, the US also has a right to demand reforms. And, I as a Ugandan will not see any ill in us making sure that the excesses of our government are reigned in.

Because, they are excesses. Because, Uganda is beautiful, and the manipulative might of our government is not balanced by the weak, fractious, fractured opposition. Me as a Ugandan who is minimally interested in the politics still feel the strain, and the fear, and the risk of writing such blunt opinions.

To continue, the issue of ‘neo-colonialist influence’ is being hyped up here in Uganda.
So, the bad west (not the bad dollars, by the way..!) the bad west wants the evil gays? And, they don’t want the Anti-Homosexual Bill? And, they want to spread homosexuality in beautiful Uganda?

Barack Obama keep off!
Ssempa, (of course), is playing it up to the maximum.  From his latest press release (he is prolific!)

We observe that the President talked about the phenomenon of 300,000 sodomites who gathered in New York demanding that Uganda should also legalise sodomy! The coalition would like to encourage the President, Executive and the Parliament by mobilizing a peaceful demonstration of more than 1,000,000 people on the 17th of February. This demonstration will bring all Ugandans and well wishers for a day to show how they feel. The taskforce will then also undertake a nationwide campaign to educate the public on this evil calling on them to support our leaders

So, in this kind of atmosphere, how to intervene? How to do something that can impact for the well being of the common Ugandan?

Oh, I don’t think I have ever subscribed to the whole issue of the decadent west and all. (Mind you, I was born old and wise. Hey, give me leave to be arrogant and boastful too!)

But, with all the ills that we have, I am all for clarity of thought. And that clarity is NOT served by us Ugandans, and African hearing the call of rubble rousers and manipulators. Clarity of thought. That is a necessary thing, and, that is what I request of my allies. That will be in the follow up post. A note to my allies.

Rough Night

Rough night it was.

Quite a bit of it spent awake. He is sick, and he was running a fever, and I am not a good nurse. And he keeps reminding me that I gave him the flu.

Sigh…

He was ill and couldn’t sleep most of the night. And I was not able to sleep with him hacking and hacking on besides me. And though I know it is only temporary, that he will recover, I could not sleep. Till I remembered that I did have something which could help.

No, I did not remember. I went searching for something, anything. And I got something.

He was able to sleep, after reminding me of how bad a nurse I am. He was contrite, and running a fever, and wrapped himself around me. Slept.

Now I am up. Not feeling very rested after the night.

But the day is beautiful. Golden sunlight on the leaves, green, cool. The song of birds and the knowledge that I am alive. He is sleeping besides me. I know he will be better, but cant help knowing that he is not feeling so good now.

Half of the night I was worried about him. The other half I was furious at 27th. Guess the diatribe did not do much to lift my anger! But when I got up I realized that others had got there before me.

Oh, he will reply, that is the fun of this. But, gloves off, I can do something about that!
