Early this morning, thinking of the chaos in Kenya, I read a poem.
Something from an unknown author. Touching in my need to find something solid to lean on.
Kenya, to me, is the rest of Africa. It is Uganda, Sudan, Darfur, Zimbabwe. It is Tanzania, though that country has known peace almost continuously. It is the land of my birth. And a very tough continent it is. With tough people, who despite all the tears and pain, somehow pass through it all.
This piece is particularly suited to Africa, motherland, of this particular moment. When a sister country of ours, blessed with peace before, has erupted in flames.
We shall overcome.
Whether the Weather
Whether the weather be fine,
Or whether the weather be not,
Whether the weather be cold,
Or whether the weather be hot,
We’ll weather the weather
Whatever the weather,
Whether we like it or not!
Take heart, Africa. We shall weather the weather.
