Same-sex marriages anger Iguru

Sunday, 13th July, 2008

By Pascal Kwesiga,

THE ordination of gay priests in the church is unacceptable, the Omukama of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom has said.

Solomon Gafabusa Iguru said the practice, which has been introduced in the church by some Christians in the West, was aimed at diverting Christians from the true word of God and urged the people to fight it.

I urge you to do everything in your power to resist it, he said.

The king made the remarks during the ordination of six priests and five deacons at Bujumbura Catholic Cathedral in Hoima town on Saturday.

The Ugandan law prohibits marriage between people of the same sex.

Iguru asked church leaders, especially the newly ordained priests, to preach against homosexuality and lesbianism in the church to protect the sanctity of African values .

I appeal to the clergy to denounce gay Christians in order to maintain the holiness of the Church and keep it as one.

The Bishop of Hoima Catholic diocese, Dr. Deogratius Byabazaire, presided over the ceremony.

Politically correct to gay bash and hate speech seems to be the norm. Err, this time if I say that it is because of the church...
