Updated Travel Advisory for Uganda

By the US.

And, they (Americans) apparently read the text of the Anti-Homosexuality Act, 2023. I mean, they are accurate in what they advise to potential travellers to Uganda. The Act is the law of the country now, so, homosexuals coming to Uganda…, beware!

As the Spokesperson of Uganda’s Parliament advised Namibians, ‘Don’t be Gay in Uganda’. Short and Succinct. Just don’t be gay. Like there is an off and on switch to your fabulousness. Switch it off at the border, or airport. Wheresoever.

The American government advises.

“"Reconsider travel to Uganda due to crime, terrorism, and anti-LGBTQI+ legislation…,  (it) raises the risk that LGBTQI+ persons, and those perceived to be LGBTQI+, could be prosecuted and subjected to life imprisonment or death based on provisions in the law

"LGBTQI+ persons, or persons perceived to be LGBTQI+, could face harassment, imprisonment, blackmail, and violence,"
the US State Department said, warning also of the risk of attacks by "vigilantes".

"Be mindful that any public identification with the LGBTQI+ community, as either a member or supporter, could be grounds for prosecution, and that even private consensual same-sex relations are illegal."”

That was totally expected.  And, it does apply to any visitors, not only Americans, of course. Switch off the gay vibe at the border, or airport

And the warning is the responsible thing to do.., though people travel for lots of reasons. It is more than likely that some US citizens will be caught in the trap kuchus,  LGBTQ+ Ugandans find themselves in. And yes, Ugandans have a very broad definition of ‘homosexual’, so…, the suspicion might be quite wide off the mark, but straight Americans might fall into the trap.

How will Ugandans react? LOL.

Obtusely. Nice word, I am happy to have the chance to use it.
This is what am expecting of our dear leaders. They will tell the Americans that they don’t need their trade.. [of course, sour grapes]. Some will be very proud that they are not getting any more American sinners into the country [we do have a lot of weirdo religious fanatics!] And others will take pride in the announcement neglecting to point out to those relying on tourism that this hurts the tourist industry, a major foreign exchange earner. Oh, some will claim that is just persecution, no tourists are at risk, and this law does not target it. Asumani Basalirwa has shrugged off the effect of the law on HIV prevention. He, the whole learned honourable MP (he is a lawyer by profession), didn’t have to know that there was any problem with the Anti-Homosexuality Bill with regards to things like health. Or, I love this excuse, no one informed him.

Important thing to remember, dealing with Ugandan politicos.., and other leaders. Read the text of the Anti-Homosexuality Act 2023., and when they tell you what they say it should say, just tell them what it says…, it is in simple English, and the farce that they don’t understand it is just that. A farce..
