What comes out of a Man's Mouth

Do you know how many Christian, or evangelical Non Governmental Organisations are in Uganda?
I had reason to check. Wow!
I think we might be the most evangelized nation on earth. Bar none! I thought I did know that they are many. Very many. What I have just realized that more than three quarters of NGOs in Uganda are Christian evangelicals. Wow!

Sad, sad, sad.
Children marched, I believe it was Friday, in support of the anti-gay bill in Uganda. It was organized by one of the faith groups. I just hope Pastor Ssempa was not there to show them some of the best and worst gay porn. Under the guise of showing them how bad gay people are, of course. Think I am joking? He invited two of his sons to see the pornographic show of gay sex. Yes, he actually did. Check this out. Oh, if the Monitor link disappears, I have the extracts here.

Thousands of children on Friday took to the streets of Kampala to demonstrate in support of the Anti-Homosexuality Bill and to denounce violence against minors.

About 5,000 children, organised by Raising Voices and Children with Mission, marched through Kampala city carrying placards that asked Ugandans to unite against sodomy, including one that said the “Reward for sin is death”.
“I am happy to be part of this demonstration because I do not support homosexuality. Teachers should stop beating us and our parents should take good care us. The government should protect us against defilement and child sacrifice,” 14-year-old Dora Atim said.
-
The senior programme officer at Raising Voices, Ms Prossy Jonker Nakanjako, said the children’s march had been organised as part of the annual children’s national prayer that happens before the start of the first academic term.
“There are children from all over the country and we are here to convey our massage to the government, school administration and parents that sodomy is evil,” Ms Nakanjako said. “Government [should] provide children with education, health among other necessities and give them protection.”
[grimly], the pressure is on, for the government. If you thought the anti-gay forces in Uganda are going to take the decision lying down, re-think that. And, they are going to go for all their power. I think this is preparation for the Million Man March.
Want to read more of that? Here.

You want to know what changes to the bill there are? Well, apparently, here are some of them. errrrrr, I must assert that the people who are proposing these changes are not legislators. They are Christian pastors who just happen to meet and decide policy…. So, maybe this whisper is correct. Maybe these are the exact changes to the bill that they want. Here they are.
Uganda’s National Pastors Task Force Against Homosexuality*, chaired by Ssempa has resolved to support the Bill with amendments that include reduction of the sentence from death penalty to 20 years for aggravated homosexuality and the inclusion of a provision of “counseling and rehabilitation  [by the church] to persons experiencing homosexual temptations.”
So, for having sex with my love, the man that I love who has been my partner for 9 years, and counting, I will have 20 years instead of the death penalty. And, I will be forced into ‘cure’ therapy. Has Richard Cohen snapped up that contract? Maybe, or maybe not.
That same change, applying to aggravated homosexuality, will apply to me if I am HIV positive and have gay sex, if my partner is disabled in any way- physical or mental, and doesn’t matter whether we are consenting adults.
Me, I am a serial offender. So maybe it is better they give me the death penalty immediately? It will help decrease the expense to the state, as they draw out my death. I would rather hang and die, rather than be hanged, quartered, dismembered or disembowled. Lets not draw it out.

The angry author of the above article goes on to suggest some things that should be done to Uganda. Hey, we are a ‘civilised’ country. We just want to kill our gays. Only that, we just want to be free of our homosexuals. As simple as that. Why will the world not allow us to do that in peace?
-----

Just got a piece of what Ssempa does when he is not advocating for the killing and imprisonment of gays. He says he knows what true love is. Really. Here.
Referring to 1 Corinthians 43:1-4, the Rev. Byarugaba talked to the students about true love.
“True love doesn’t rejoice in unrighteousness; one cannot mention the parts of the car without referring to the manufacturer. So we too cannot experience true love without considering God first,” he said.
Pastor Ssempa explained the meaning of true love. “Love is complimentary and is only manufactured when we have God’s love.”
Very good, isn’t it? Now, let us balance that with Ssempa showing love for homosexuals. Here is one observer’s assessment of what was happening.
A pornographic slideshow of black and white photographs of men engaging in scatological fetishism is revealed. "I want to show you from their website", he proclaims, a devious smile forming. "I've taken the time to research what homosexuals do in the privacy of their bedroom. It is inhuman, it is animalistic, and it cannot be right. I want to show you these pictures." The audience lurches forward, leering at the pictures and groaning in disgust. Ssempa, enthusiastically goes on:
--
There is something distinctly un-Christian about Ssempa's lengthy tirade, whether it is the pronounced lack of compassion or the clever way he manipulates the argument.

27th calls Ssempa a Pharisee? Matter of fact, it is not abuse. It is simple, straightforward observation. To know what Ssempa truly is, you have to read that chapter of Mark when Jesus rails against Pharisees. Frankly, it describes the man to a tee.
And, opening to read the Bible for the first time in about 5 years, I come across this.
Mark 7:15 ‘Nothing outside a man can make him ‘unclean’ by going into him. Rather it is what comes out of a man that makes him ‘unclean’
Fact. Jesus of Nazareth was a Philosopher. Describes to a t the man Ssempa. Railing about how evil gay people are, saying they eat others poo, that they lick anuses. He holds all these things up and says, see how evil, how bad they are. And, from the words of the ancient texts that Ssempa gets his inspiration, there come words of wisdom which apply to Ssempa the man. No, even eating someones feaces is not going to make a gay man unclean, or evil. So says Jesus. It is what is coming out of a man’s mouth, from his mind that makes him evil.

Could Ssempa be more evil than the gay men that he demonises? Amazing, isn’t it?

I took out my bible to look for the words that I wanted. The chapter. Failed to find it. I know it is there. But, it has been years and years….!

Now, I have to sign out.

Somehow, I know a sense of urgency. I know no one will love me simply because I am gay. I mean, in Uganda. They will hate me, devile me, stone me. Because I am gay. And, that is no whine. That is observation of reality.

So, I have to fight, and the battle, the war is ongoing. I have to set up an instalment.

My name is Prossy Jonker Nakanjako. I want to disassociate from this story that appeared in The Monitor 25th January 2010 on page 2, with headline ‘Children march in support of gays bill’. The march had nothing to do with the Anti-Homosexual bill; it was about children’s day of prayer, an event that happens every year since 2007. The day is organized by ‘Children with a Mission.’ The views attributed to me in the story are a misrepresentation of what my opinions are about the homosexuality. I believe that human rights are indivisible and for everyone irrespective of whether they are heterosexuals or homosexuals, men or women, children or adults, black or white, everyone. I am very much aware of the human rights violations the gay and lesbian community are going through in Uganda and I feel sad that my name has been used to front the agenda of the Anti-Homosexual Bill activist.
